D Link for me. As for security, I did mac address filtering and I did not broadcast my SSID.

I use the DLink DI-624+ in our condo in SG, kasi simple i-maintain and it's my wife who has to do it (hindi naman siya techie). For our house here in PH I use the ZyXel ZyAir G-2000 Plus Broadband Gateway (got it at a huge discount from our vendor in the office).

it's fairly easy to make the wrt54g work. if you don't hack the firmware though, its features are limited e.g it doesn't have the the mapping ip addresses to mac addresses feature. just got the wrt150n and it has been pretty reliable.

using a linksys wrtgc, with C standing for compact. it's a tiny little box about the size of a palm and less than 2 inches thick. i've been using it for about 2 years, no major issues so far. except for a couple of glitches with mac filtering (how secure is this? been having trouble with wep) but nothing a restart couldn't solve.

I can tell you one thing from experience, steer clear from Belkin routers. You'd probably be better off with Linksys or D-Link.

Re: WIFI router.. what to recommend?

try using the internet without the router first, if it doesnt work, it means there really is a problem with the internet. if it does work, try to compare your settings, router = network settings of your laptop.

some DSL have a static IP, so you have to input manually (private/public), some are using DHCP, so that should be automatic settings, and some are PPPoE, that means you have to make a hand shake to the provider to authenticate.

so i think better ask the ISP, ask them like, my computer cannot connect to the internet, don't tell them you have a router :)

also, check the manual of the router, there might be some problem in your settings, a missed number perhaps.

i think the incompatible part is for the wireless, normally the radios for the wireless are configured by regions unless otherwise it has been set for all.

Re: WIFI router.. what to recommend?

    recently bought linksys wrt54g..

Here’s the steps I took to setup in my mac:

    1. Plug in the router’s power cord.
    2. Connect the router to your modem via the supplied Ethernet cord and the port marked ‘Internet’.
    3. Connect the router to your Mac via Ethernet.
    4. Open up the ‘Network’ panel in the Mac’s System Preferences and plug-in the following specs:
      IP Address: 192.168.1.5
      Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
      Router: 192.168.1.1
    5. After applying the settings, open a browser to http://192.168.1.1 using the password 'admin'for ISP settings..
