Re: Where to find cooking ingredients (2011) Sambal oelek may be purchased at Santis. They have a pretty decent assortment of Asian condiments and mixes. Reasonable price/lobster — now, that's an oxymoron right there, haha!
Re: Where to find cooking ingredients (2011) Didn't know Santi's have asian condiments! Thanks! LOL!! Well, I know there are places.. Cant travel to Palawan just for that. Was thinking of a more around the vicinity of Metro manila. Hope someone knows a place
Re: Where to find cooking ingredients (2011) everytime i have a craving for those expensive deep sea fishes, i go to coastal road fish market (bulungan) at 3am. 400/kg tuna at supermarket you can get at 100/kg and lapulapu @500/kg i usually get at 150-200/kg. getting it wholesale can get you even lower prices. sometimes i see a whole blue marlin thats as big as an adult male human. there are big squids, octupus, stingrays (though im not sure its legal to catch), sharks (again, might be illegal) and other exotic seafood. wear rubber boots (yung pang-baha) when you go there
Re: Where to find cooking ingredients (2011) been there already actually with the family. they have yummy pasta. loved the Black Ink Pasta anyway, still haven't made pasta, but will do this weekend. will be heading to Rockwell this saturday to go to Ateneo then buy flour at the store you were telling me about. wish me luck, sir!
Re: Where to find cooking ingredients (2011) Thanks! Will check out Santi's. I've checked Rustans Makati, but to no avail. Maybe it's just seasonal? I'll check S&R, but the last time I went there (Fort), they also have none. Is the Landmark you're talking about the one in Makati, or the one in Trinoma? Thanks!
Re: Where to find cooking ingredients (2011) mmm.....the only reasonably-priced lobster that you can find are over-sized or matured lobsters. They are no good for export or for fine dining restaurants. Talk to the retail seafood outlets at Dampa or Macapagal. But finding RPL is very slim. Personally, I just substitute tiger prawns for recipes that call for lobsters/crayfish. Another way to enjoy without the high price tag? Crowne Plaza Seven Corners buffet or similar (be there early). @anton_mac......thanks for the very useful info. Where exactly is the coastal market? Are they open everyday? What's the best day to go there? Driving directions from South-bound EDSA (or, if you have it, coordinates for GPS)? TIA. And aside from rubber boots, bring disposable plastic gloves and a cooler. The most fun I've had at a real seafood "market," was at San Pedro Port in Los Angeles. My Aunt (seafood-lover) brought me there at 2 AM. Dear God, the sheer variety (tuna, atlantic cod, halibut, tiger prawns, mahi-mahi etc.) was amazing and sold at least 50% off from the grocers.

Re: Where to find cooking ingredients (2011) I've been looking for pitted date fruit. I used to find them at Rustan's and S&R, but they don't have them now. Any idea where I could buy them? Thanks.
Re: Where to find cooking ingredients (2011) mmm...Iranian dates but not pitted at Santi's Wilson. Just use a paring knife.
Re: Where to find cooking ingredients (2011) not sure if you have heard about killions in quiapo, that's where we purchase some cooking ingredients.
Re: Where to find cooking ingredients (2011) Anyone know where to buy dried bael fruit (Aegle Marmelos) or bael fruit tea packets?
does anyone know where to buy potato flakes in bulk? I tried sulit.com but the only vendor there has deceptive ads I bought last year from a food fair at the worldtrade (@120/kg) but I lost the company details
Mmm....potato flakes or dehydrated mashed potato? Not in bulk but i've bought some at SM Hypermart last year (call them). Also try Killion as suggested in this thread.
yup dehydrated mashed potato.I frequent Killion they don't carry it. I need to buy in bulk for a friend's canteen and at the same time get some for my personal needs.
mmm....if not at SM Hypermart, there's Rustan's. They carry (if memory is not faulty) Betty Crocker's and another one (Canadian brand). S & R is also worth checking.
