I open my MacBook Air yesterday to check and clean the internal parts since I'm experiencing random restarts recently. Upon opening my MacBook Air after cleaning, I noticed that my MacBook Air serial number is not identified on ABOUT THIS MAC menu and also in system report. I did not change any internal parts, I just wipe out the dust inside. Can this be bring back?
I think I've read a similar problem like this before in a MacRumors forum. It had something to do with an OSX update or a logic board replacement. Their solution to this is to bring it to your nearest service center and have it serialized.
i've replaced the logic board on one of my MBAs and the replacement number appeared as expected. try the reset first.
Sorry I failed to mention that the service center failed to put the serial number when the logic board was replaced. Here's the quote from the thread: You need a serializer. It sounds like your logic board has been replaced and the Genius just forget to serialize it. Take it to an Apple store and they can fix that pretty quick. Source - Ex-Genius. But a reset would be the first thing to do to try solve the problem
If the replacement logic board is from Apple, serial number would appear but it its from another used computer, no serial number
hm, i somehow don't get that--how can a replacement logic board not be from apple? even second-hand ones would have been manufactured by apple.
Problem solved. I download this free tool Blank Board Serialiser.. followed step by step procedure and after reboot, my serial number is back again.
