it does seem faster. Patrick is right. you get to connect to sites much faster but the download speed stays the same.

i changed the DNS on my APE and got the "Oooops" error. To fix it, i went to system pref, network and changed the DNS values. now, it works!

    thanks, elbert!

i read the articles in their site, i must have overlooked, so question: will this have a significant improvement on other programs such as limewire or azureus?

Nope. You'll only see improvements when browsing/surfing. DNS are for resolving domain names (i.e. www.philmug.ph) and finding their equivalent IP addresses. It just makes connecting to sites quicker in short. But it does absolutely nothing for your current bandwidth.

With Peer to peer apps like limewire or azureus, peers are already identified as IP addresses.

Re: A faster internet, for FREE: OpenDNS

DNS servers resolve Name address to IP address, that's the only thing it does, it doesnt improve your bandwidth (since you will still traverse the same gateways). The reason why it seems to be faster is because it resolves Name to IP faster than our average DNS servers.

Anyway, this is a great find! It's the best alternative to crappy nameservers (such as SmartBro's). ;)

has anyone experienced the "website you are accessing does not resolve" issue? 2 days ago, i can't access our family web page and i kept getting forwarded to Open DNS site. i tried accessing from my .mac account and pages loaded.

first time it happened since November. weird, well at least for me :)
