Yikes! So does this mean that with the sunsetting of SMART's GIGA plans, line-only plans will no longer be offered under their new direction?

I have plans (no pun intended) to upgrade my grandmum's line (she's presently using SMART's old 250 line-only plan w/ 100 MB data initially intended for the purpose of being able to see her location at any given time using Find My Friends) because lately she's been utilising more of her phone line and that also means getting overcharged for any subsequent data usage. My only curiosity at this point is: how exactly is the credit limit enforced? I kept it at 500 but she keeps getting unbilled charges of upwards 1,000. Isn't it the purpose of the credit limit to prevent any of this from happening or is this actually a case of misinterpretation on my part?

Either way, I sincerely hope they will continue offering line-only plans because she has no desire of possessing a phone that's locked to a particular carrier.

The new Postpaid Plan is still available as Line-Only. Lock up with be 6 months.

I am unsure about the credit limit. I forgot to ask about this when I got my Line-Only Plan 399 last March 30.

I have the same problem. My plan is 499/month and I requested for a bill limit of 600/month. I was charged 800+ last month but I paid in advance P3,000 for the Jolibee promo so I couldnt withold payment until it was resolved.

I called the hotline to complain about the charges telling them I was expecting that my calls and SMS are to be diverted upon reaching 600.

It was explained to me that seeming I was a subscriber of good standing I was given a leeway of 180% over my bill before being cut off.

I replied that what's the point of the 600 limit I requested?

It isnt about affordability but I prefer not to pay more than 600 because I want it that way.

They called back but I wasnt able to call so I will call again.

Plan will end next month so I might opt for the 399 plan. Wish they would offer a 199 plan with half the minutes of calls, unlimited SMS and half the data.

I have a gut feeling that they'll coax her into accepting this as the explanation behind her recent billings. I'd hope they actually respect and prioritise the subscriber's credit limit choice, otherwise, it's kind of pointless—what's their basis anyway of a customer with good standing? If it's someone who pays her bills on time then pretty much the credit limit might as well go defunct. I consider the credit limit as a way to control any excesses so once the line gets cut that's a sign to me that I've gone over my monthly limit. I expect to see it reach up to 500 because that's my credit limit; nothing beyond that.

If I were in possession of this postpaid line I'd most probably no longer be a customer with good standing what with the outrageous surprise charges...

I pay my bills on time. Eh di I shouldnt pay it? ;) I paid 3,000 in advance to get a free Jolibee out of my payment.

When I called they promised to make a report about billing error then after they acknowledge it they will see if they can adjust it.

My expectation is htat my limit is P600/month then my line gets redirected until next billing cycle.

that's why i don't pay exactly on the due date. as they will call you to settle your outstanding balances prior to your line getting cut off and i always tell them better wait since i'm following my banks cutoff date not your due date.

Perhaps Smart's Freedom Plan is still available for existing subscribers who want to "downgrade" but still want to retain the number.

Similarly, I think Globe's Plan Zero is still available for existing subscribers via the Recontracting/Loyalty hotline.

Globe stopped offering Plan Zero since June 2016. Although, some accounts are being given exemption. Try calling 027301300.

Successfully signed up for "Line-only Giga Plan 399" on the date my contract expired.

Smart will refuse to downgrade your account in advance of that date.

If you want to upgrade then they will allow renewal of contract within the last month of the contract.

Lowering my monthly cutoff from 600 to 500 is only allowed at stores.

Hopefully Smart will offer a cheaper plan by November say 200/month.

Maybe. I am on Freedom Plan and always subscribed to MEGA250. Now this is not available, not sure if I'll register to another promo.

More like Smart gave up on the prepaid market that spends about P300/month on two or more prepaid SIMs.
