If you could watch only 5 movies in your lifetime, what would they be?

    1. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope ( the first mattered the most)
    2. Avatar (stunning visual effects at its time, impactful plot, all-time box office record)
    3. Marvel’s The Avengers (only the first mattered actually)
    4. A Bridge Too Far (war movie that depicted the Allies’ most heartbreaking military failure)
    5. Lost in Translation (brilliant comedy, what every older man wishes for to actually happen in their lifetime, haha)

    So what are yours?

    Great topic!
    Here's mine:
    1. Casablanca
    2. The Godfather
    3. Star Wars
    4. Blade Runner
    5. Unforgiven

Special Mention would be "Cassandra Crossing", just for the nostalgia of it. It was the first movie I ever saw in a cinema alone. I was in grade 5 or 6, I think I snuck in. :)

I’m surprised Love Actually is a constant among many, and I actually love it too. It’s comedy, it’s drama, it’s a love story, there’s action, and there’s Bill Nighy.

Haha, been watching this thread too because of that :)

    In no particular order:

    1. Love Actually - also our top Christmas movie. Wife & I watch it every Christmas (since 2004). Still waiting for 4K to come out. Bill’s butt in UHD would be something else :ROFLMAO:

    2. Glory - my top war movie. Denzel & Morgan FTW!
    3. Forrest Gump - “heartwarming-est”
    4. Pursuit of Happyness - not a popular choice but Will was brilliant in this one
    5. Superman - my first widescreen movie experience. Still makes me smile when I recall walking out of the theater with mom & dad.

Glory is a winner not only because of Denzel and Morgan but because it was a moment of American history many would like to remember but refuse to do so in this Trumpian age.

War movies are often bleak and demoralizing as exemplified by my choice A Bridge Too Far, and others like Saving Private Ryan, The Bridge at Remagen, The Longest Day (well beyond John Wayne’s cowboy twang), The Wild Geese, and the epic Gettysburg.

Don't know about "best," but my personal favorites...
    • High and Low - my favorite Kurosawa film
    • Deiji (Daisy) - this Korean film by HK director Andrew Lau Wai-Keung is my favorite "romantic" film, and I usually stop there, and say no more than that, when I recommend it
    • Wall Street - for very personal reasons; I don't know if a film can change your life, but this one affirmed the choice I was making in my life back then
    • 100 Tula Para Kay Stella - my favorite Pinoy movie
    • The Godfather Trilogy - yes I don't know how to count haha

Looks like we love Christmas movies. My faves...
    • The Family Man
    • Love, Actually
    • Serendipity
    • The Family Stone
    • Die Hard

How about your 5 Best Indie Movies, in any order of course:

    1. Before Sunrise (1995) - still a better “love story” than that Twilight, and Julie Delphy and Ethan Hawke were rumored to be a couple then...
    2. Being John Malkovich - a brilliant far-out montage into the mind of JM, who else...
    3. The Blair Witch Project - the one that started the lost footage trend
    4. Land Ho - comedy about elderly guys going on a road trip to Iceland; seems like I will do that someday...and
    5. My favorite again: Lost in Translation - before Black Widow became that famous, she and Bill Murray had this May-December fling (ding-dong).

High and Low is one of my favorites as well. I remember watching it years ago and leaving me greatly impressed. It was light years ahead of its time. it was so engaging, I was just drawn to it until the credits rolled. I need to see it again, ahaha.

Back in 2007, I wrote on my journal this....

Four movies you would watch over and over:

    1. Family Man

    2. Love Actually

    3. The Incredibles

    4. The Italian Job

It's not in any order, and I obviously had just finished watching #4 when i made this list. And not everything on this list will be part of my 5 best.

    5 Best:

    1. Family Man

    2. Love Actually

    3. *Any Star Wars film (yes, even the prequels + the new series)

    4. Raiders of the Lost Ark

    5. Once Upon a Time in America

But really, I love all movies and I really hate it when I'm limited to make just 5 choices. I believe it is impossible to come up with one that you'll really be happy with.

    Top 5 Movie Series

    1. Star Wars
    2. Back to the Future
    3. LOTR
    4. Marvel Cinematic Universe
    5. Fast & Furious franchise

^Maybe the choices would be the most viewed films you’ve made over time that makes it the best for you. I have over 2,300 films on DVD, BluRay and the quintessential downloads but frankly I have just watched a fraction of this, and not entirely over a hundred I have watched twice or more. My best 5 films I have watched nearly 5 times or more that’s why they’re my best ones.
