Oh and another thing... since I mentioned widgets on my last post.

There are so many widgets out there that just eat into your dashboard space and end up wasting more time than saving it!

Have you seen the Yoda widgets (doesn't matter which one)

I'm a huge, huge, huge Star Wars fan & even I found it pointless, and disgustingly lame.
You type in a sentence, and the widget yoda rearranges it in Yoda-speak, and a poor excuse for his voice comes out reading it, ala-apple speak.

Whisper doesn't really sound like Yoda, darnit! & doesn't everyone kinda know how to rearrange english to sound Yodish? I thought it'd be cool, with lines from the movies coming in at the right time (like, "May the Force Be With You" when you leave, or "Do or do not, there is no try" when you attempt a fix on your mac), but what I got was a static jpeg (of the CGI yoda pa!!!), with a blank for me to fill up, and have him help me realize just how much of a dolt I was to download him.. curse you Widget Yoda, curse you!

(whew... now I feel better. any more useless ones out there?)

    farankoshan,

The key to happiness is lowered expectations.
If you don't like the widget, just disable it or throw it in the trashbin.

I love how you just threw that out there, lamski. Almost as if you'd have expected me to have kept it anyway... I did that early enough to hear a thud at the bottom of the bin.
    Yoda's widge is dead.

Wait a minute...my husband glared at me one time for downloading these. I vehemently denied it. I don't ever remember downloading these from you Carlo. Or did I, while having an Alzheimer's attack. :D

  9. Wasteful Widgets are like bad art and your dock is like a gallery. You really don't have to be a Mondrian or Picasso these days. Just learn how to make widgets. The truly good widgets will go down in history as masterpieces.

wasteful widgets? i have a ton of those. when I have nothing to do I just download whatever sounds nice and then regret it later.

    1. tigergotchi -- the tiger doesn't even DO anything! he just sits there. when you feed him, does he thank you? no!
    2. ShakeASpear -- my sister did this, I take no responsibility for downloading it. Gives you daily shakespearean insults such as: "artless crook-pated strumpet"/ "paunchly motley-minded dewberry" to try on all your pre-adolecent enemies!
    3. To do Tracker -- theoretically a great idea, but then again you don't have access to the list of things you have to do unless you're online.
    4. stickies -- why??

there are some truly great ones though like -
    1. calvin & hobbes/ garfield daily comic update - just because
    2. dash monitors, systat, and cpu heat
    3. gifraffiti - if anything is stupid fun, this is, but it's fun
    4. the dancing hula girl/ homer/ jesus - sorry, i truly enjoy this -- they dance when your mouse goes over them! how is that not great?

But I guess it all depends on how you use your widgets. Obviously I don't really use them for anything important (really, HOW badly do you want minute by minute updates of the sunlit earth? -- although the BBC widget is great) but I love them, if only because they pretty amusing little things. I don't think I'll stop downloading widget junk anytime soon, and you have to admit, scrounging around looking for cool new dowloadables is half the fun anyway :)

Whoopee Cushion Widget. Just like the real one. :D I had quite a kick with this considering its utter uselessness. :D
