uhm weigh it first, weaker processor, but unibody stronger casing, better screen no firewire port (I think)

if you are after casing longetivity/durability & the better nvidia video graphics, go for the unibody. if you need firewire & the extra .4Ghz processor power, go for the black macbook.

in terms of RAM & HDD - neutral, you can upgrade them both anyway.

oh btw, I believe that APP if applied to both, the unibody's warranty will be a few months longer than the black macbook.

Don't be so keen on the clockspeed. Higher clockspeed is not always equivalent to higher performance.

I think the difference in performance is minimal between the two. Having Nvidia graphics is definitely better than GMA 950 but most people don't really utilize the graphics card.

Straight swap? if yes then do it quickly before the unibody owner change his/her mind :p

its a straight swap. but a real life usage comparing the 2 makes me having 2nd thought, my black macbook has 4gb and 250gb hd and much snappier in doing everything comparing to the bare SL unibody.
will try to evaluate everything & decide on monday, thanks for all input,
actually there is another on offering another unibody (with backlit kb) but wants me to add a premium bec. he just adds an AppleCare, btw my AppleCare expiring October, was think to get one and use it for another 2 years, everything is so smooth and perfect with this black baby.

uhm don, as I said, the RAM & HDD are not a problem, as you can upgrade them ANYTIME. try upgrading the processor, the casing (from polycabornate to unibody), the video graphics (from Intel GMA to Nvidia 9400M) or add a firewire port - those are NOT upgradeable.

it's easy to choose based on what you need more:
    processor - black macbook
    firewire port - black macbook
sturdy durable casing - macbook unibody
    video graphics - macbook unibody

and whichever loses the opportunity to extend/apply the AppleCare +2 year warranty loses too...

    *upgrades for unibody macbook:
2gb DDR3 RAM - 1850 each (faster than the DDR2 of your black macbook)
500gb 5400rpm HDD - 4800 (more than the 250gb HDD of old! get a 7200rpm for better performance)
1066 Mhz bus speed - FREE! (faster than the 800mhz of your black mac)
    l
    l
---> these 3 smokes the black macbook in performance! (processor performance discounted)

...please don't let the lower unibody stock RAM & HDD be your basis - mababaw

Agree on his argument. Plus, you get the multi-touch-pad!

It's the newer model... why not?

    +1 It's a direct swap

If you're having sentimental reasons on swapping i'd suggest buy the APP and don't look back!
The longer you wait to decide the "sentimental value" goes down, and everytime you look at your Macbook you'll always get 2nd thoughts on what might be....or what was to be...

Unibody for me anytime. The plastic casing for the White/Black Macbook are just too brittle over time.

If the premium on the Unibody (with backlit KB) is resonable, since this is applecare, go for that one. This is already the 2.4GHz MBA.

Ah, I thought it was stock black MB vs stock unibody. In terms of value, you still come a bit ahead with the unibody. Unless you need processing power like me, the unibody should be fine. The ram speed and better graphics should make up for that for regular users, just like macdrive said.

unibody is much better because of the videocard is much more powerful than the black mb. you can always upgrade the hdd and ram anytime.
