Multiplying like rabbits, especially the poor ones. I wonder how much more the system and environment can take. If only we can colonize other planets. hehe
Couples earning less than 42k a month tend to have 2-4 or more kids. They are not required to pay individual income tax, least impacted by estate tax and odds are do not pay property tax. At most the couple pays 60k a year of 12% VAT. They use the most public services like public K-12, public health and other govt services. Couples earning more than 42k a month tend to have 2 or less kids. We pay individual income tax, estate tax, property tax and more than 60k/year of 12% VAT. We are least likely to use public services like public K-12, public health and other govt services. On top of that we are normally approached for utang na di naman mababayaran. Sana govt would tell poor people that if they want to be mayaman then copy what the maymans do. Check the orange column of the study below. It shows on average how many persons per household within each income bracket. Just right now our 50yo helper whom we pay nearly 20k a month asked for a raise because she needs to support her 1 dozen kids & extended family. If she only had 1 kid at 25 she would have been done by now. Odds are the kid would have gone to a high demand STEM course in college that was funded by us. Sadly her eldest dropped out because she wanted to be an unskilled worker.
Countries where girls are compelled to attend school, master a useful skill and work in a high paying jobs tend to have fertility rate that is below 2.1. They are not at the mercy of working man who can dictate how many kids they would have.
The article mentions Elon Musk. His comments may be pertaining to the fertility rate of rich nations. No question poor countries have a high fertility rate as the women there have little to no say on how many kids they have as their communities, societies and govts are not inclined to limit their population size to what they were a few years ago. If rich Catholic/Christian nations were smart they'd prioritize receiving brain drain refugees from the Philippines. ;-)
there's this mentality that the more the children the higher the chances of 1 child making it big to lift the entire the family up. sadly, our neighbors have caught up with us education wise.
That's the modern interpretation without much scholarly study or imperical data to support it. Whether human, plant or animal we're all driven to multiply as much as the environment allows to do. Our fertility rate started to taper off once women are able to have a say with how often they get pregnant. This is why in the Philippines persons who earn more than 21k/mo tend to have 2 or less kids. To help individuals earning less than 21k/mo just pay em to voluntarily stop at 1 child permanently. Wish ko all our present and past household staff did this. Less odds of them asking for a loan you will eventually have to forgive.
growing up, I think the world population was about 4 billion & that was already a huge number. I can't believe that this number would double, all within my lifetime..
