During the MS-DOS years, the Wing Commander series were among the best games of their day. This was one of the games I grew up with, along with many other classic favorites like the King's Quest Series, The Ultima Series, Prince of Persia etc. Sadly game maker Origin is no more. But I'm very happy to report that this game has not only been remade to run on current PCs, but its available on the Mac as well as Linux! Don't you just love open source Its a very good port, though not perfect. A lot of the original sound effects, music and art work is there plus the graphics look fantastic. I can't help but feel a sense nostalgia. The screen shots tells it all. Go get it! 180MB http://priv.solsector.net/ [Edited on 6-9-2005 by Kenneth]
thanks for the heads up!!! i loved this game to death. used to sneak my dad's IBM thinkpad into my room or into the bathroom to play this game with reckless abandon! spent most of my time doing scrap metal runs and trading downloading now ...
Wow, thanks for the heads up Kenneth! Wing Commander was a favorite series of mine, I think the original Wing Commander was the first game I had that took advantage of the extra RAM that my Intel 386sx could handle
This is great. Have been a fan of Wing Commander myself. And Privateer is no exception. I love space games. Thanks for the link Ken.
started downloading. getting really impatient... ROAR!!! i hope this game rocks, sayang ang libreng internet.
just like you kenneth, i just loved origin games... heck i just love games period... hahaha! hmm... i wonder if they had that origin game where its similar to WC: Privateer, but you're flying an F16. Can't recall the name. I wish they had that too. hehehe! will definitely download this when i get home... thanks for the link!
Thanks for this update Brings back old memories of having to deal with floppy after floppy to install WC's various add-ons. Loved those cutscenes with the Kilrathi! Now if only someone would release a freeware X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter game...
Nino, dude, tama bang ilimbag mo ang ganitong usapan... euphimism dude.... pare, i'll give you a copy 'next time you come see me for a photoshop problem' hahahahaha randy
It was called Strike Commander. That was definitely another favorite of mine. I still have my original CD, I'll try and dig that up later
ackkk it runs on OS9... which Tiger doesn't have... grrr... to install OS9... do i just drag and drop? or do i have to do some other special stuff ?
What are you talking about? You're talking about Privateer? It runs native on Tiger. But in anycase, you can simply copy the OS 9 folder of another mac to get classic.
yeah privateer. i ran the file that i downloaded and the familiar Classic icon popped up on my dock. Forgot the error message but I believe it said something like I didn't have OS9 anymore or something like that so it didnt' run
Really? thats very odd. I'm running it natively on Tiger... :qmark: Perhaps you downloaded the wrong file. Try downloading the one from the torrent. [Edited on 6-10-2005 by Kenneth]
thanks kenneth. i downloaded the non-torrent one... in any case, i'll try it as soon as i get the chance... how's the performance by the way? is it choppy (or slow) or smooth to play?
On an iMac DV 400, its a bit sluggish unless I throttle down some of the major rendering effects. Its very RAM dependent. 512MB is the sweet spot.
