I see no difference in its function. I think it is just user preference whether he likes it as a menu or as a widget.

I just like to know where do you put your istat.

I have istat pro installed as widgets and set Hot Corners (upper right) to activate Dashboard.

How about you guys? istat menu or istat widgets?

My resident mac guru suggested I install it in the menu bar, less memory used. I don't notice much diff though.

    I use iStat Menu.

Mostly, I can see at a glance if something's hogging up resources (CPU/RAM). Temp & Fan speed are a glance up to the menubar if I'm using the macbook in a non-aircon environment.

But mostly I like have the Network Upload & Download speeds always available to be seen. That way I can see if the network's up and running well, or if I had a connection drop. Or if the WiFi connection I'm using is flaky or consistent.

Widget here for me. It's just a quick press on the mighty mouse button to draw it all up on the screen.

Widget. Mas maganda makita ang stat ng mac mo all at once. XD plus, it frees up space sa menubar. Haha. Sorry, OC kasi ako. XD

Dashboard widget for me. It's easier to get info since it's just a hot corner (mouse gesture) away vs a mouse click. But I use the menu bar version too, just for bandwidth.
