Hello, This is my first post so let me first say hello. I am on a MAC PRO (4 Core) 1st generation. I am wanting to upgrade the RAM from the current 3GBs to a total of 8GBs and need some help on where to buy RAM. I searched the boards here and found a lot of people buying from Longbeard. Any other suggestions for getting it in Manila other than Power Mac which is off the charts with their prices. I appreciate your help, Skip Nall
You can contact or send private messages to charlie of digital walker or larry of istudio. Both are members of Philmug
I am also interested on upgrading my iMAC's ram. Would you know / rough estimate on how much it cost? (2GB upgrading to 4GB or 8GB) Thanks in advance
My wife (joan400) and I bought a 1GB and a 2GB (Kingston) at PC Express (Alabang Town Center) for a total of P2200 cash a few weeks ago to upgrade our 17" iMac to 3GB (from 1GB - 2x512GB).
Thanks reivi! Did you upgrade it yourself? How many slots would an iMAC have? I just bought my iMAC last April (standard 2GB), wonder if it is a 1 2GB or 2 1GB...
It's probably 2x1GB. I want to upgrade mine too. I just bought my iMac yesterday and the store where I bought my iMac from is quoting 10,500 for the upgrade. Outrageous!
@jumper12: Yup, upgraded it ourselves. The iMac has two slots at the bottom. I would agree with Bulakbol that you may have an iMac that came with 2 1GB. @Bulakbol: I think it will be really expensive if you buy the RAM from them. You can just buy the RAM from another vendor and have the Apple Reseller install it for you if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. What my wife and I did was to purchase the RAM and then ask (confirm with) the tech at the Apple Reseller if the RAM we bought would be compatible with our iMac model. Although we already bought the specific RAM required based on the documentation at the Apple Support site, we just wanted to make sure.
Great... Thanks for the info. WOuld you know how many slots an iMAC have? What would you suggest? 10k is a bit pricey... Thanks again!
Not very sure about brands, is Crucial okay? Compared with Kingston, which is better? I see a lot of memory modules being sold at eBay and 4GB (2x2GB) would only cost around 3,500. Any local seller offering them at this rate? Edit: I found this at eBay. Will this work with an early 2009 iMac? Model Brand: Kingston Model: 2 X KVR1066D3S7/2G Type: 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM Tech Spec Capacity : 4GB (2X2GB) Speed: DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Cas Latency: 7 Voltage: 1.5V ECC: No Buffered/Registered: Unbuffered Manufacturer Warranty Parts: Lifetime limited Labor: Lifetime limited
You might just want to try canvasing Greenhills with the specific memory in hand... Try and reading the manual that came with your mac and the details should be already there... And just ask if you can return/replace them if they won't work with your computer(don't say mac although most shops today don't "bump" the price anymore if they're considered mac compatible)
for peace of mind, just go to digital walker and have the RAM installed there. good service from good folks.
Since 8GB will max it out, why buy the 8GB @ 64K if 4GB x 2=22K? Anyway. Anyone know how much a 2GB RAM for the Black MacBook cost these days? and where can i get them?
