what\'s wrong with my apps? Our ibook is not even a month old and some of the applications have crashed on me the few times that I've used it, particularly iphoto and word. I was running a cd-rom when iphoto crashed but i was using word on its own when it quit unexpectedly. This hasn't happened so far with my g5. Why have my apps been crashing? Is this normal? Any suggestions how this can be avoided?
Sounds like you need to do a RDP: Repair Disk Permissions, first aid kit for something like this. Go to your Applications>Utilities folder and run Disk Utility. Highlight the drive in the left pane, and then click on Repair Disk Permissions on the lower left of the other pane. Just let it run. If a lot of stuff scrolls past in the window, it's a sign that the problem is here. Tell us if this works. If it doesn't, we'll go to other stronger measures.
I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with my friend's iPhoto. It just refuses to load. I've done a Repair Disk Permissions, erased preference file, used Disk Warrior and it still doesn't fix the problem. According to my friend, the problem arose when she inadverdently pulled out a USB flash disk out of the USB port without properly ejecting it. Could this be the cause? Another possible cause could be the fact she installed a free AOL dial-up account into her computer which keeps activating itself when she starts iPhoto. We have uninstalled the AOL account but somehow there are still meesages pertaining tot he AOL account not being configured correctly. But we already uninstalled the whole AOL program. Hope someone can advice...thanks....
Hi Adel. I have been experiencing the same thing and I can't even access Disk Utility. Safari is useless now and so are Konfabulator, Bluephone Elite and other apps. I get the beachball all the time and then poof . . . no go. Can you possibly share the "stronger measure" that you mentioned? I hope it's not the dreaded "clean install". Thanks. ~hacksaw
This happened to me recently as well. So I just backed-up my data and had to reinstall Panther from the CD and the rest of the applications I use. Yep, I did the dreaded “clean install.”
Happened to me recently with Safari. Did a repair permissions a couple of times so it's working now. But it looks like it's time for a clean install. In a few weeks time I guess so I'll start the new year right.
