Hmm maybe Facebook or Yahoo Messenger. The first App I purchased from the App Store is Keynote for my iPad. Had to buy an iTunes Gift Card from a philmugger to purchase it.

First paid app was Nike+ for my iPod Touch 2G in 2009 for USD $1

It used the accelerometer to count the paces, and allowed calibration based on number of steps and known distance travelled.

It allowed me to track my runs before I had a proper smartphone with GPS. And the recorded distances were within 10% or less compared to GPS, which was amazing.
