My mom's MBA is really outdated and with Catalina on the Horizon, my OCD for software updates is tingling.

The problem is she forgot her App Store password and the password of the email address she used. Any advice or workaround for this? I bought a 1TB to backup everything and this is the first time I am working on a MacOS. I am not sure if this works like iOS that it gets iCloud locked. It's her workhorse machine and we can only afford a day of downtime.

Some things I can think of if it's feasible is to create another admin and migrate there. And delete the old profile?

Or backup everything and reinstall the OS.

    Appreciate the help!

Just press option upon power on. If it didn’t ask any password your fine

Learned it the hard way last year, bought a macbook 12 2016 for my wife pag uwi ko i notice di ko ma format its asking for a password. In the end i have to hunt the seller and fortunately no choice sya to refund but it was not an easy process

If it's firmware locked, you can always bring it to an Apple service center to have it unlocked as long as you can provide proof of ownership.
