Hey Guys, planning to go see The Big Apple (New York) for 3 days, by the end of May 2011...aside from visiting the Apple Store and eating at Katz Delicatessen, any suggestions on what to see, where to eat? I'll definitely do the Hot Dog thing by Nonoy... And as any Pinoy who travels...operative word is "Mura"
....visit Ground Zero, eat hotdog in Central Park and partake of the best Jewish food on the planet (any Jewish deli), take the Staten Island ferry, visit the New York Public library and the Museum of Modern Art. If time permits, Greenwich Village and Chinatown are very interesting places to visit as well. Broadway is expensive.....perhaps off broadway or off off broadway . If you've got jungle fever, the Apollo Theater is a must. If you're a child at heart, there's F.A.O Schwartz. If you're a shopper, Bloomingdale's on 59th. Three days is not enough.....
Thanks for the info. Guys..will definitely try to include your suggestions in my itinerary TeamJM and Parallax..crossing my fingers that Melo will be able to go deep..and hopefully get myself a ticket.. Raypin, agree..3 days is short...hopefully I can squeeze as much I can in the trip..side tour lang kasi coming from Chicago...thanks for the tips
in addition: walk along Fifth Avenue, check out Rockefeller Center (30 Rock), stand in the middle of Times Square....
NYC is one of the few places where it can be anything and everything you want it to be. One of the best and least expensive ways to get an overview of the city in such a very short trip is to take one of the go-around, hop-on and hop-off bus tours. Checkout http://www.newyorksightseeing.com/ and http://www.citysightsny.com. For a breathtaking view, climb up to the Empire State Building and/or the Rockefeller Center. Also, pay a visit to Lady Liberty. Have fun in the city!
if this is your first time in new york, don't be shy to do the touristy thing--as new yorker DJ suggests, take the hop-on, hop-off bus and hit the major sights: the empire state building (splurge a bit--go up! it's worth the ticket); fifth avenue; rockefeller center; times square (best to go there at night); battery park; if you can spare the money, go to staten island. a train ride to coney island to eat nathan's hotdogs and talk a walk on the boardwalk can be loads of fun. i wrote something about that adventure here: http://homepage.mac.com/jdalisay/blog/MyBlog.html#ilc311618345
I would skip a lot of the touristy stuff as those are real time-killers. Daytime: Times Square Central Park Union Square West Village St. Marks Place Halal cart on 53rd and 6th (order the famous chicken and rice) Eat lots of pizza At night: Comedy show Clubbing Off-Broadway show
Get the 7 day unlimited MTA card for the NYC subway and bus line, riding the subway is really fun for me Take a walk at Central Park
Visit The Met. Join the NBC Tour. Try the Magnolia Bakery Banana Pudding. Get the Gray's Papaya Recession Special.
