Yeah, the 2.0NA is underwhelming speedwise. They should have brought in the 2.5 engine which is found in the US or the 1.8L Turbo found in Japan.

The problem with Subaru is the removal of the turbo in the Forester locally. The new CX-5 is now turbo charged, and I think that's going to eat into the Forester's base.

Correct. If you want a turbo engine you're only looking at the wrx / sti cars. Not even the previous (suv/wagon/estate) flagship outback has turbo. Moving up from a forester to an outback you only get the 2.5L NA instead of the 2.4L turbo offered in the US.

Now you're looking at the wrx wagon at php2.7M to get a decent sized car with turbo.

The XV is overpriced at php1.9M with just 1 trim and engine choice. The US has the 2.5LNA as a choice. With hybrid tech as an option as well.
The forester is not an engaging drive with just the anemic 2L engine starting at php1.7m to php2.1M. Japan at least has 1.8L turbo as a choice whereas the US has a 2.5L choice. With hybrid tech as an option as well.

The local distributor has these php200k discounts for the xv to move units. I don't know why they position the xv as a premium crossover when it's not. That's why it's not cross shopped with similar offerings of Honda hrv, Toyota cross, etc. It's priced higher than some mid size suvs.

I'm not much of a speedster so I don't really mind if my car is siow as long as it's comfortable to drive, but I just use the paddle shifters whenever I need extra torque.

But I got upset... actually, I still am... when I found out that the sole variant of the new Forester lacked the standard features they're promoting on their website like the Driver Monitoring System and some key features of their Rear Vehicle Detection System (Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Assist Braking). They even had Oculus VR demos for their clients when they launched the new Forester at the recent MIAS.

those old enough will remember that we used to have a number of RHD vehicles in our streets.

then the Japanese surplus trucks arrived

    then the accidents happened

then they were all banned from public roads

IMO, RHD vehicles are dangerous. Not only is the driver's position in the wrong side of our roads, the passenger will also need to get off on the wrong side of the street!

Headlights will also be an issue for older cars.
