i keep quitting the program itunes, but for some reason it keeps launching again and again even if i don't launch it myself.. anyone know what this can be about? haha getting kinda worried here! thanks
Do you notice when it actually auto-launches? Is it when you insert an audio or blank CD? Or when you connect your iPod?
Huh? Aren't we up to 6.0.1 already? If you are using iTunes version 6 make sure you've also installed the latest version of Quicktime.
could you try disabling all your 3rd party widgets that are somehow related to iTunes? i think this happened to me once and that's all i did to resolve it.
The same thing happens to me from time to time ever since updating to the latest version of SizzlingKeys. I just quit iTunes a second time whenever this happens. A hassle, but no biggie.
hi! thanks for all the replies! i don't have any third party widgets associated with itunes.. and it would just randomly launch. i didn't load any disc nor did i plug in my ipod. i noticed it happened after i plugged in my external hard drive to back up my itunes library. after unmounting my external hard drive, i just noticed it kept launching.. i panicked and ran a virus scan just in case haha and it stopped when i launched norton anti-virus.. so far so good.. really weird though!! thanks so much for all the info etc.. if it acts up again i'll try reinstalling or something
more wierd itunes behavior riding on to this post, i'm having problems opening itunes on my quicksilver. i've been on 6.0.1 since it was launched and up until a few hours ago, was working just fine. it launches but then i get the pinwheel of death and the application stops responding. repaired permissions twice already but no dice. any suggestions will be most welcome.
tried deleting itunes plist file but still the same results. will probably reinstall the app and see if that works. thanks for the suggestion, though.
adding to the weirdness... With my ipod connected, I was transferring an audiobook from my desktop into iTunes while Podcast was updating. Suddenly everything froze, pointer wasn't responding. I restarted after a few minutes then ran iTunes and got an invalid 'iTunes Library' message. iTunes renamed it as damaged and created a new one. I closed iTunes, trashed the new library and renamed the old, ran iTunes. Same error message. Ran disk utility, hoping that fixing the permissions might do it, same result after restart. All my playlists - gone. Library - empty. iTunes Music folder - intact (whew). How do I: 1) Reload all the music in my iTunes Music folder into iTunes? 2) Recover my playlists? (Is there a way to import my playlists from the iPod? Dragging didn't work) Thanks in advance.
well you can use free third-party software like iRip or copyPod to get all the music from your iPod and onto a hard drive. well as i've read from some people from the apple forums, this is not so much recommended though. Ü but i've used iRip though and it worked for me. just to have a backup of my files.
Appreciate the reply charmichael. I'll take note of the apps you mentioned. Would you know of similar applications for the mac paltform? I was also hoping to get around the problem without sorting to third party apps - at least not yet. Thanks again. [Edited on 11-27-2005 by irwin]
IpodAccess, IpodRip, Podworks are just some of the mac apps that could copy ipod files into itunes. These are all available in MacUpdate or Version Tracker but one particular application I would recommend is Senuti. It does the job well and it is free. To my knowledge you can't directly copy iPod files into iTunes without these third party apps. There might be a geeky way to do it through the terminal but why go through the trouble.
Senuti it is! ('free' is such a great selling point). Will give it a shot. Thanks peter_ob! EDIT: Senuti ('iTunes' appropriately spelled backwards) worked just fine! Everything's back to normal. Big thanks again to peter_ob and charmichael for your replies! [Edited on 11-27-2005 by irwin]
yeap! i must agree also. forgot to include that in my previous post. you cant get senuti for free from versiontracker.com and it works absolutely great!
