so I was just on the 8:30pm PAL flight from Cebu and 45mins in, the captain announces we are being asked to "stand by" due to heavy rain in MNL. captain was instructed to wait it out and await further instructions. it's one thing bracing for heavy rains & gusts on the ground, but when a plane shakes & suddenly dips at 30k feet, & you know it's not normal turbulence... you pray
I'm in insurance, and I know the statistics of how unlikely an aircraft will plummet to earth because of a random event. But, somehow when I feel the plane drop, I say to myself, "Is this that one time it will go against the odds?, oh crap!".
Meanwhile, in Virginia where my wife is still right now tending to my daughter and her newborn baby, rains have started falling hard due to Hurricane Florence which was downgraded from a Cat-5 to a Cat-2 but still invoked mandatory evacuation along major coastline communities in the Carolinas and Maryland, among others... They have hunkered down in our in-laws’ sprawling Southern house with the knowledge they could weather the storm despite pronouncements to evacuate. This is the second time my wife has experienced being caught in a hurricane: once in New York and now in Virginia.
Mm..JTWC says the supertyphoon’s eye will hit Laoag City...looks like a direct hit...15/00 Zulu (so, Sept. 15, 8:00 am, local time)....up to 135 knots or 250 kph. Stay safe and pray.
That idiot who withheld search and rescue resources from Yolanda victims, as he and his anointed presidentiable attempted to extract political concessions from Tacloban's mayor. I am largely an apolitical person, but Yolanda was the last straw for me. I never had a lasting hatred for anyone before that, except for the Red Sox.
Was that Pinoy and Roxas? Now I remember it. I think it was Roxas who said it. Yeah that was embarassing.
mm....mga P...... https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/10323...-meet-in-malacanang-on-eve-of-ompong-landfall
It was Pnoy who said that. Yes it was insensitive but it was actually addressed to a single individual. Yes the response on the Yolanda incident could have been a LOT better and the blame is to be shared from both the local and the national government.
I already answered your previous question with a "blind item", admitting to once being apolitical. Yet my answering your question is already being flagged as a "mod being political". So try not to elicit mods to use their *trump* card. Hehe. Back on topic, my friend in Hong Kong already taped up his glass window panes, and for good reason. If you know of people with travel plans to HK, heads up! The typhoon won't directly hit HK, but with 140kph winds expected in HK tomorrow, flights will likely be delayed or cancelled tomorrow.
