Seems like the new AW-based unlocking system works like the one in my MBP.

Contrary to what I've read about it previously, it actually doesn't do a FaceID scan on the uncovered part of my face because my wife was able to unlock my phone while I was nearby.

That's correct. I doesn't scan and identify your face. As long as it sees a face with a mask and your Watch is in the proximity of the iPhone, it will unlock. Good thing is, you can force unlock your iPhone for anything.

I have to correct myself, I tried it again and the phone wouldn't unlock in another person's hands with my AW right next to it unless my masked face is in the view of the front-facing camera array. The phone was probably angled slightly when it unlocked awhile ago so it got a glimpse of my eyes. I would be careful letting other people handle my phone with this unlock feature enabled nonetheless because all they have to do is to stay nearby and point FaceID toward me.

Mm…it is safe to use from my experience. I think the way it works is there is partial face scan (above the mask). How less secure is it vs. full face ID scan remains a mystery. As a precaution, the watch unlock cannot be used to authorize Apple Pay or download Apps from the App Store nor can it be used to access Password chain.

Isn't it the noise (hearing levels) app and the classroom(learning time) app?
