you would have to source your display from online suppliers: http://www.ifixit.com/Mac-Parts http://www.powerbookmedic.com/ and have an ASP or Ynzal (i assume that your iMac is out of warranty) to install it for you.
Mikebookpro, have you tried calling AppleCare before/after bringing it in to follow up on the problem?
This is an LCD issue. When I was working for Apple I sent my 17-inch for repair to AASP for free. The reseller's name is actually Senco Link. This is covered under EM80 (Emerging issue). But EM80 has expired last year and Apple no longer provide free replacement for defective LCD panels for these models.
I beg to disagree. I had a 6-year old Mac which had a vertical line issue. I was already the second owner and of course it does not have warranty anymore. The lcd panel was replaced for free. Depending on issue, Apple will do something about your issue. And if you, or anyone, buys Mac "para lang sa pangalan", the point is severely missed. I for one prefers Mac for the OSX first before the hardware and before the "pangalan". Nahihirapan akong intindihin post mo souljaboi. Gamit ka naman ng maayos na punctuation.
Hi! So did apple replace your MacBook LCD for free even if its out of warranty? I have the same problem with my MBP. Thanks!
Good day all. I just got hold of an iMac (17" 1.83 Ghz Core Duo) with the same issue. I am now currently using an external monitor to (temporarily) address the problem. I actually went through the entire thread - and it's satisfying to learn that Apple had (in a way) acknowledged that this was an LCD defect and was willing to replace it for free (t'was great to know that people were able to get what was rightly due to them). It's just unfortunate (but not unexpected) that they don't do the replacement for free anymore. As a backgrounder of sorts, I used to have a PowerBook G5 - I eventually let go of it when I inherited a more powerful dual core laptop then. Currently, I am more well-versed with Windows-based machines. However, I would like to re-enter the world of Apple through this unit. Anyhow, given the present state of my iMac, what would you recommend that I do (apart from the external monitor solution)? 1. Are there specialists or recommended individuals/centers for this? 2. Any idea of the general cost? 3. Ultimately, would you recommend me keeping this or would you rather that I dispose of it (given the condition)? Any input/s would be highly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.
