I don't use it too because I experience the same thing as you do.

I use it to control the iPod, so far so good. Have tried using it to call twice, one correct, one incorrect. I think it's the enunciation of the words that's making it go bonkers.

I don't use Voice Control on my 3GS. But I've tried... and failed... many times :(

It works best with an American accent.

I use it when driving and using the headset. Yeah, I have to slang the accent a bit. With practice, you say the names as recognized. :D

Try to memorize how the voice over pronounces the names, it would be more accurate then :)

Though saying the names with a slang can be a bit annoying haha

Press and hold the home button for a few seconds, until the voice control interface pops up.

I like this feature but it doesn't seem to recognize when I try to make a correction by saying "wrong"

Otherwise it's very useful when I'm about to pull into the driveway and I need to call for someone to open the gate :)
