Hi Folks. Need recommendations for a vlogging camera. Primary use is for doing product reviews/ unboxing and additional footages for my drone videography primarily for timelapse. Here are my requirements. : Minimum sensor size - at least 1 inch or Micro Four Thirds Preferably not too heavy ( Canon's gargantuan size DSLR/s is out of the question.) Can shoot timelapse. Can shoot 4K videos @ 24 fps, 100Mbps at minimum 15-20 minutes without overheating. fully tiltable flip screen My budget is at SGD 1400 ( roughly PHP 55-56K) Hotshoe mount for microphone. Not a smartphone. TIA.
Try Sony RX100 Mark V If you want interchangeable lens try Sony a6300 or a6500 but it doesn't have a flip screen.
my suggestion is the panasonic lumix g85: - 16mp mft sensor - 453 g body - supports time lapse - supports [4K] 3840x2160:4K/30p 100Mbps, 4K/24p 100Mbps - fully articulating touch screen - ph srp 38990 with 14-42mm kit lens - has hot shoe mount - has 3.5mm mic input
Many Vloggers favor Yi 4K+ or Go Pro Hero 6 with external mic like Boya MM-1, Movo VXR10 or Rode Videomic. The 4K 60 fps video of those two action cams are very useful for vloggers.
Thanks. I’ve heard of reports of the Mark V overheating when recording 4K videos in 10 minutes so I have some apprehensions buying this. Yeah I’m actually considering the a6300 but I don’t want to buy so many lenses. What’s the ideal lens for blogging?
Thanks. For some reason, Panasonic is bad in promoting their products here in Singapore. They don’t have a sales hotline and they don’t participate in IT Shows but this is a viable option. Going to Harvey Norman now.
It is true the Sony Rx100V overheats. Based on your requirements you need at least 15-20 minutes of 4k. Even a6300 has overheating issue. I recommend getting the a6500 for the IBIS. Sure it's not as good IBIS than the others but it helps. I own an a6500. No tilt screen btw. Ideal lens for vlogging is 10-18mm. Much better to use the Sony 10-18 to utilize the auto focus system of Sony. However the 10-18 is expensive, you could find Php30K for used ones. I just use the 16-50 kit lens for vlogging. Not that bad. You can do vlogging with 16mm. If you have the budget go for the 10-18 one. Suggestions if you're going for Sony: a6500 body Sony 16-50 kit lens - 16mm wide can be used for vlogging. Sony 10-18mm - if you have budget Get a decent Joby Gorillapod LOTS of batteries - I have three. One original and 2 Wasabi extra(Third party) I also have a 35mm 1.8 Sony for B-rolls and for BOKEH I believe canon will be releasing 4k Mirrorless camers but not sure about the specs. These are just suggestions based on my personal experience. Choosing the gear depends on you. Hope this helps.
Thanks I went to the IT show here in Singapore last weekend looking for a vlogging camera and came up empty ended ( not exactly, I got an Olympus OMD 10 Mark III but that's another story.) Here are my findings, : a6300 - The screen tilts but not sideways. I need a screen that can tilt sideways so I can see myself during recording. For a SGS1300++ camera it's extremely disappointing that it doesn't have a touchscreen / touch to focus. Timelapse is done in post production via an App from Playmobile. a6500 - Too expensive, Screen can't move sideways. RX100 Mark V - screen tilts upwards not sideways, again no touchscreen, no provision for an external microphone, overheating issue. Canon EOS M50- Was demoed to me by Canon, available for preorder. It can record 4K but.. I'm not a camera expert here but shooting on 4k setting means cropping the field of view. When I was using it, it felt like doing a selfie using a 4 year old smartphone. Fuji - No camera with 4k and tilting screen Olympus - Went with the OMD EM10 Mark III, Was impressed with the built quality and design ( reminds me of those 80s Olympus camera and Leica). Shoots with 4k but still no screen that moves sideways. Lumix - No presence in the IT show So I will still be looking for another 4K camera with a screen that shifts sideways. : Lumix TZ90- Pros: Shoots 4K, screen shifts sideways, timelapse built in Cons: Small sensor, no external microphone, fixed lens Lumix G85 - M4/3 sensor, Shoots 4k, screen shifts sideways, timelapse, build quality, DSLR-like design, Interchangeable lens Cons: released almost 3 years ago Lumix GX8 - M4/3 sensor, Shoots 4k, screen shifts sideways, timelapse, More megpaixel compared to G85 (20vs16), Interchangeable Lens Cons: Even older than the G85
Here's Casey Neistat's take on vlogging cameras. He's the current it guy in youtube vlogging. He popularized the use of Canon 70D and 80D for vlogging.
