VisualHub developer Techspansion shuts down by Dan Moren, Macworld.com Oct 4, 2008 12:49 am Mac software company Techspansion has decided to discontinue development of its applications and close its doors. The news was posted this morning on the front page of the company’s site, where company founder, Tyler Loch, said that he would be shutting down the company for “personal reasons.” Techspansion is best known for creating software for media conversion. It produced VisualHub, an application that lets you convert video files between many different formats; AudialHub, a similar program for audio files; and iSquint, an application that converts video into iPod-friendly formats. Full report here. Techspansion site here. Although I never really used VisualHub and iSquint much, it's still a pity a Mac developer like them would close shop. Oh well...
this is sad. Besides their useful apps, their humor would be missed. I have yet to find another software company that can place under the HELP menu: Help, I need somebody, Help, not just anybody, Help, you know I need someone, help. When I was younger, so much younger than today, I never needed anybody's help in any way. But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured, Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors. Help me if you can, I'm feeling down And I do appreciate you being round. Help me, get my feet back on the ground, Won't you please, please help me?
Why... I've bookmarked the website for my to-buy list. Too bad. Are there any alternatives for this great app?
Does this mean my Visualhub is now freeware? I hope copies are still around if and when I need to reinstall.
What? I just downloaded iSquint at the office yesterday. And have always thought that Visual Hub is a killer app for “clustering” Macs.
I can't imagine my iBook WITHOUT iSquint... I even use that for everyday conversion of videos into mp4 format. Retains great video quality at 1/10th of the original file size. Very useful for uploading family videos to multiply, facebook.. What da heck..!
this is a nice way to wake up in the morning... any alternative apps? or can we just use the discontinued software?
I'm pretty sure we can still use the software, that's why their homepage gives a guide in backing up the apps, in case we want to reinstall them again. The only thing we really lose is their technical support and further app development down the road, but as the developer says, they're all good probably until after Snow Leopard's successor comes...
what a shame. isquint was unique with its endearing software. apt that the developer used the dialogue for aborted conversions - "nostalgia - oh well. it was fun while it lasted." wish i bought virtual hub while i had the chance. cheers!
are there any straightforward apps out there, preferrably freeware that can also "Stitch Videos Together"? huhuhuh
This is the only app that could convert my Nikon D90s videos to my iTouch/iPhone! I dont want to go back to Windows!!!! huhuhu.....
