elo can anyone help me out? I need to show a flash presentation to my groupmates from a website. Would it be possible to somehow save the flash file for viewing when offline? Can i "save" a webpage using safari and still be able to navigate through the website even when i'm online? thanks!
You might want to do a search on versiontracker for a program called Web Dumper X.. it will download a site to your hard disk for offline viewing.
I'm assuming you're the author of the Flash presentation. If your groupmates are using IE 5 or above for PC, just send them the .SWF file and open it using IE. Or saving the .SWF file to your HD will automatically open the stand alone flash player when double clicked. Another way is to open your Flash authoring app, and export the projector version for PC or Mac. If you're not the author, and you want to download it off somewhere else. In Safari, View>View Source. Find the .SWF file, copy the filename (i.e. flash.swf) , paste it and replace the .html at the END of the full URL in the browser address bar (i.e. http://www.webpage.com/pics/flash.swf ), then enter to load the lone flash movie in a browser window. Then "save as". This works on regular flash movies, but not on more complex flash movies where there are references to other movies.
Somewhat related question to this. I have gotten my hands on a couple of canned Flash or Shockwave based product demonstration CDs. How do I view them? Most of these CDs have exe files to launch the entire package consisting of various files pieced together using a front end menu structure. I have installed both Flash and Shockwave from Macromedia. Still not working. Any help would be appreciated.
those cd presentations are burned for PC use since the movies uses .exe. look at the contents of the cd, if you can, and see if they have placed a mac version there. Or if there are any swf files in there try running them too.
There doesnt seem to be a mac version in the ones that i have. I do see the swf files. When I run them, some of the content comes out, however, when I click on some of the links, all I get is a blank quicktime viewer window open. I think some of the links call another file or app that doesnt show properly. Is all hope lost? Will I have to get Virtual PC to run these demos?
