utorrent - the lightweight torrent client previously only available on PC has released a BETA Mac client.

    http://mac.utorrent.com/beta/

Currently, it is only available for Intel Macs running Leopard.

This is beta so use it at your own risk but if it is half as good as the windows version is, Transmission has serious competition. :p

Thats good news.. Transmission sucks lately. Same torrent using transmission on mac and utorrent on a pc, both with correct port forwarding, yields better and faster speeds on utorrent.

I find the same to be true. I am really looking forward to the final release of utorrent for OS X. I just hope it performs like its PC counterpart.

i hate transmission. I was downloading something (around 7.95gb) when it said i had downloaded 55% already. After a hangup, restarted transmission only to see it went down to around 25% weird

If version 1.0 is making the rounds, why are they only offering 0.9 on the site?

Just google uTorrent 1.0 for Mac. It's available as a torrent link (ironically). So you still have to use Transmission to get this one.

Transmission is "slower" maybe because it has no DHT (the distributed database) support and has no plans of supporting it. DHT enables you to connect to other clients even when the tracker is down.

This makes transmission sensitive to the tracker's availability.

IMHO DHT is not the issue. I disable DHT on utorrent running on my PC and it still is noticably faster than transmission on my MBP

Finally! I hope it lives up to expectations! uTorrent was the only Windows application I miss when using a Mac.
