Well, because of its smaller size and fewer strings, the ukulele looks less intimidating to many. Whatever gets you started works!

Reviving this thread from the grave! :p

Are uke strings (tenor scale specifically) now available locally? There's a brick-and-mortar ukulele shop now in Makati as well as a local online retailer of ukes but I never got around to the inevitable problem of sourcing strings aside from importing them.

^Try emailing Susings Guitar. They sold Aquila uke strings in one of the eyeballs I attended. And because they sell tenor ukes, presumably they have Aquila's tenor strings too. HTH. :)

I recently discovered that Ukulele Manila sells Aquila sets for all sizes. It's not my string of choice but at least it's available locally now.

I joined UUP (Ukulele Underground Philippines) community on FB over a year ago. I attended one EB in UP. It was fun, except a couple of those who ordered strings from me, which I imported from the US, did not bother to honor their orders.

Not a big deal; the strings were only about $5. So there was only lost in trust, not money.

Lesson? Yes to musical notes, not promissory notes. Stick to music, where it's about, well, music, not transactions where people will ultimately show their *upbringing*. :D

I think its time to revive this thread!

Hey guys, Im a new ukulele player. Ive been playing for about a couple of months now and I must say that I am already suffering from a bad case of UAS. I started with some cheap uke from Cebu that wasn't even that playable so after a couple of weeks I got a Samick U70. I made it my Low G uke and bought a Kala exotic Soprano. I really cant put this instrument down. Hope that there are still a few muggers out there like me.

    - Nick

Been two years since I played my uke. But I have two video concepts in mind, so I will dust mine off soon!

Can't guarantee the pretty girls, but if you keep practicing, you will likely get lei'd. :D

Truly one of the Philippines' gems, Gary Granada, plays the uke!

Hi, there are free ukulele workshops for beginners usually once a month held at Alabang Town Center. Just look for sound essentials on facebook, they usually post their schedules there. HTH :D
