Season 79 of the UAAP has started, and this thread is about men's senior basketball.

Did you watch the season opener between UP and Adamson? Adamson is starting with a bang!

And the matchup between UST and Ateneo? Despite losing key players due to grades and eventually them transferring to other schools, Ateneo has found stability in Thirdy's return and Aaron Black's coming of age. What a duo to fill in the shoes left by Kiefer and Von.

Yup nice win by Ateneo yesterday!

With the Mbala in their lineup, I think La Salle has a big chance of winning the crown this year.

prior to yesterday's games, i was thinking lasalle is a shoo in for the title. but seeing adamson's swag and admu's discipline, lasalle will have to stretch every muscle.
looking forward to seeing the other teams play too. im hoping for a tight race to final 4

I was suprised by Adamson. Scoring 100 points was a strong message.

great win by DLSU yesterday! Despite missing Ayo and Teng, the team managed to stick to their game plan which is "Mayhem Defense." Looking forward to the rest of the season =)

Mbala and Mayhem were too much for ADMU yesterday. Convincing win by La Salle! Let's go for the season sweep!

    Animo!

La Salle is way above any team in the league right now. I wouldn't be surprised if they sweep the season, while the rest that would be joining the final four would have close W-L records with second best would probably have a 10-4 record.

I think DLSU won't lose a game this year. Anything less than a championship for them would be a letdown. Other teams are just fighting for a shot at them in the finals. Just too deep, too strong with a solid style of play.

From what I'ved heard, Ben Mbala is still eligible to play 2 more years after this season.

With the first round out of the way, i'll rank the teams:-

DLSU - very deep. the championship is theirs. no question.
FEU - kind of deep, talented, with athletic players. Coach Nash has a good system.
NU - Good cast of players. the 2 Diputados, Alejandro, Salem, Aroga, etc. Coach Eric lost a bunch of veterans but can compete.
AdU - pumaren press. very good young player with Jerrick Ahanmisi with a good supporting cast of ochea, mustre and manalang and pappi sarr.
ADMU - very young. supposed 2nd or 3rd tier players suddenly get starting positions. overachieved the first round. It's a free for all between NU, Adu and Admu for the 3rd and 4th spot in the final four. The system is in place, better ball movement unlike the last 3 years.
UST - They're sorely missing a good PG, hopefully subido shines and matures. The big man (old man!) Karim Abdul left very large shoes to fill.
UE - pumaren press. they're supposed to be higher than UST and be in the thick of the final four slot but somehow they're underperforming.
    UP - Coach Bo. haha!

That was indeed a heck of a game between Ateneo and La Salle. If only Coach Norman can "consult" in developing Ateneo's 'big men.' :)

Looking forward to the second round. OBF!

No sweep this year. Ateneo played good solid basketball. Well despite the loss, La Salle would still end up as no 1 seed.

Good game, ADMU. Reality check for DLSU. Maybe good for the team, so they'll realize they're not invincible.

The game on Wednesday (that was reset because of a typhoon) would be crucial for the final four standings. FEU (8-5) would most likely win against UE, so that would make them 9-5. The Ateneo (9-4) & Adamson (8-5) game is interesting because if Adamson should win again, that would make it a 3 way tie for 2nd with a 9-5 standing.

If that happens, I think FEU would drop to 4th due to quotient & Ateneo & Adamson would have a virtual best of 3?

But should Ateneo win, then that would make them #2, FEU #3, & Admason #4.

Then again, these scenarios might be moot as they would eventually face the mighty DLSU in the finals who are heavily favored to win it all this year.

Wow what a game! That FEU shot almost counted & would have won them the game!
Ateneo avenged their 1pt loss with a 1pt win this time hehe.

Congrats to the overachieving Blue Eagles! Good luck against the mighty Green Archers!

I hope it reaches game three. It would be nice also if they have it at "The Philippine Arena" should it go down the wire. Good luck to both schools! AN1MO!!!

Sayang, Thirdy fumbled on his last 2 attempts, which could have extended our lead. On the other end, Jeron was clutch in his last 2 shots, although the first on didn't count. A half second too late like the FEU shot.

    Congrats Archers! See you wed!

Thirdy is not yet a big time player.
But he will get there and it is scary.
Sayang 'yung one year niyang hindi naglaro. It could have added to his maturity.

The shady officiating discredit the efforts on the court of both teams.

On to the next and hopefully the last game.

    AN1MO La Salle!!!
