this reviewer from amazon sort of explains why...

"The product description improperly declared compatibility with Bose SoundDocks, but this is not true for 1st generation docks. The first generation dock unwisely only provided power to devices on the 12V pin, ignoring the 5V pin. You can (or could) by a $100 replacement board from Bose that talks on the 5V pin, but it isn't worth it. I had hoped that this device would deal with power on either pin, but it doesn't."

I've been using one of these for 2 years now. I ordered mine from Amazon. A foolproof way to test for compatibility with your 30-pin speaker dock is to check if your speaker dock can charge your iPhone while playing music off the iPhone. If it can, then it's compatible. The BT receiver needs power from the speaker dock to work, and some speaker docks don't have charging capability while being used for music.

Im sorry but this is not a fool proof way to test for compatibility as some docks of connections have internal circuitry that wont allow audio streaming. One of my customers had an issue with a Philips dock. I guess the lower tech ones are more compatible with this one. The ones with the basic audio dock functions. It works well with my TDK TAC3521.

Hi dvsadvocate, please post all your for sale items in the MarketPlace, not here in the forums.

    Thanks!

i think the difference is between the first gen 30pin using firewire and the later 30pin with USB. their power are routed via different pins. hence most will stream but not all will charge.

there are i think only 2 options to convert those 2 different types of 30pins. one is the cablejive and the other is scosche. both not available locally.

i read also about the digital and analog output from your device too. if you can view album art from the display of your speaker/car audio, then its digital. if not, good chance its using the analog output from your ipod/iphone.. most BT dongle will only work with either digital or analog.
