Help! Anybody else here encountering the same Transmission problem I am having? I've noticed that on occasion, while running Transmission, the Mac just freezes. It won't accept any keyboard input, trackpad input etc. The only recourse for me is to power down and restart (by pressing the on button for about 5 secs). When I turn it on again and open Transmission, downloads in progress restart to zero . This didn't happen when I was using Azureus (interrupted downloads always resume to where they stopped), plus relatively not much crashing/freezing when using Azureus. I am on a Macbook using Tiger 10.4.11 with 2MB of memory and a 250gb hard disk.
that's strange.. i've used transmission ever since i switched.. never encountered that problem when i was on tiger.. not yet on leopard.. mine sometimes hangs up when i quit transmission but that's it.. sorry dude.. good luck..
same here - never encountered that, and I'm on OS X Tiger. Update to the latest one and hopefully that should fix it (in case the one you've got there is an old buggy version)
hehe. is your 250gb external or internal disk? happened to me lots of time but it's a 500gb external as my save disk, what fix it is reformatting my external to Mac OS Extended formatted before as journaled. If your drive is internal then I think you could try to uninstall and just reinstall, Also try the lower version that works best for you before you updated transmission. hth
a smiliar thing happend to me before. everytime i drag something to the trash and transmission is positioned right on top, my mb freezes for like 5-10mins. after that, transmission creates a torrent of the file. i updated to the newest verion and i think it fixed my problem.
No problems with Transmission for me. I actually had more problems when I was using Azureus and Bits on Wheels. Transmission seems to be the most bug-free among the clients that I've tried. Try to always update both your OS and Transmissoin. This might solve your problem.
That happens to me sometimes. What I do is just wait. After about five minutes things get back to normal, and I notice that my download speed jumps up dramatically, sometimes even up to 300%. I'm not quite sure what that means. I'm thinking that the sudden and great surge in internet speed might be a factor.
have not encountered that kind of problem but i have a different issue with transmission, sometimes it eats up my internet connection. i don't know if the problem is with the torren file or the program itself. i opened the port already...and sometimes it will not let me browse the net. weird problem. anyway...i use azureus vuze as a backup program.
There's your problem there, you got too little onboard memory Kidding aside, repairing permissions and getting the latest version of transmission as others have mentioned should work. Have nothing but great success with Transmission with each update.
I am using the latest version, actually. I observed it closely and found erratic behavior. I'll just follow the delete-install advice for now If this does not solve it, i'll go back to Azureus. @cooles -- oops. 2 GB RAM hehehe. (dizzy ol' me) @skinhead, it's an internal drive. I was guessing that maybe Transmission has trouble with HDs larger than 160 gb but it doesn't make sense. It must be a memory leak. Salamat sa tips!
My gut tells me it your external drive is the culprit - check that it's getting enough power as the macbook's USB ports might not be delivering enough power. Make use of a powered USB port if needed.
