I'll let the others do that. I've done my part over a dozen years ago. :ROFLMAO:

I'll just enjoy the economies of scale that every household getting on fiber will do.

Race to the bottom will be awesome. Let Converge lead the way.

It makes you think that if it werent for cronies like Dennis of Davao and the pandemic govt wouldnt enact laws that would remove red tape relating to 5G, fiber and international backbones.

If these legal bottlenecks were removed 2 decades ago we would have had faster, cheaper and more reliable internet as late as a decade ago.

1Gbps for <2k/month, anyone? Unlimited landline calls to all networks?

Something that I came to realize in the last 20+ months.

Philippine laws & regulations is the primary reason why tech rollout for these services below is so slow
    • ADSL
    • fiber
    • 2G (1991)
    • 3G (1999)
    • 4G (2009)
    • 5G (2019)
    • 6G (2029?)
    • VoLTE
    • Wi-Fi calling
    • VoWiFi
    • soon Vo5G
Slow rollout also causes so much friction making the services so expensive. Singapore's SingTel rolled out 10Gbps in 2016 for SGD189. That's 7k/month or equivalent to 1Gbps in the Philippines
When you remove all those red tape 20 years ago then we'd be enjoying 1k/month at 100Mbps by now in more than 22 million Philippine households and more than 1 million businesses

PLDT really needs to fix their system.

ever since they “upgraded” the underground cables in our village 3 months ago they haven’t been able to deliver at least 40% of their promised peak speed or throughput.

what more their 1 gig promise. Bola bola

Anyone else running into issues opening some websites?

If I do a traceroute, I start seeing request timeouts (RTO) once it leaves PLDT's network.

As of this morning, I think it's been resolved... for the most part.

Though my brother still claims that one of his mobile game will only load up to 70% and stay there forever. He had to switch to mobile data to play it.

Yes, I am experiencing these issues as well especially on social media apps, despite the seemingly upgraded speed.

I think the issue started yesterday or even on Christmas day... It just happened so randomly that nobody ever suspected there's something actually wrong.

It got particularly worse yesterday as family members kept asking me if there's something wrong with the internet. After digging further into it, I found out that packets are being dropped as soon as it leave PLDT's network. So yeah, the problem is somewhere in their peering.

Right now, continuously pinging 1.1.1.1 gives me a Swiss cheese of a reply with an ave. response time of 350ms.

Yup, it started around Christmas afternoon. Had to deprioritize PLDT to keep the people at home happy.

I first noticed it when things were loading very slowly while I was in the Lazada and Shopee apps, of all places... maybe it was a sign :ROFLMAO:

In Thailand there are no Congressional Franchises creating state-sponsored monopolies for mobile #, fiber ISP or even landlines.

So long as you have the capital, industrial partners and are a Filipino citizen you are good to go.

I wish it was that way here so that the carriers and telcos do not treat you like they did you a favor.

Mm…one step closer: the senate has passed the bill reclassifying telcos as public service from public utility. This means 100% foreign ownership of telcos will be allowed.
