mackieboy, you need an iPod nano. Any shoe will do, as long as you find a way to attach the transmitter to it. Nike+ shoes as especially designed to accommodate the transmitter inside the left shoe, underneath the insole.

jmgr, just backtrack a few posts up and you'll see that I answered your question even before you asked.

    thanks.

what i hate about the nike + sport kit...

the nike+ sport kit transmitter, just like the ipod, does not have a replaceable battery. how long do you think will the battery last?

the power on/off button is useless because it has no indicator. you really don't know if the unit has been turned on or off unless you pair it with the ipod nano.

and don't you wish that the nike+ sport kit has a heart rate monitor?

Apple claims it will outlast the shoe. Think of it as an optional accessory to the shoe. Once it dies, time to buy another. To me, as long as it lasts at least two pairs, I'll be happy.

It's not useless. You hold it down three seconds, it's off. click on it and it's on. If you want to check, just turn on the iPod and go to Link. If it doesn't link, then it's off. Also, the main purpose of the switch is to comply with FCC and FAA regulations regarding the use of radio transmitters in airplanes.

Not really. I wouldn't know what I should be looking out for with my heart rate anyway. As far as I'm concerned, I'm happy with time, distance and speed. If I really wanted a heart rate monitor, then I'll buy one of those watches.

Can you tell I've been won over by the Nike+ iPod?

Re: The Nike + iPod Runners Club

ok, it is not totally useless. but like i said, a simple light indicator would've made it more user-friendly. the lack of it makes me an OC about the power on/off button. without it, checking it via the ipod becomes an SOP. "did i press the power button long enough?" what if i turned it on instead of shutting it off?" etc...

respiratory and heart rate monitors help you train more scientifically. with it, you can tell if you are under training, maintaining or improving your condition, or even orereaching.

    that's an understatement. hehehe.

i didn't say that i hate the nike+ ipod. it is a terrific product. but they couldv'e made it an even better product with the power indicator and a heart rate monitor.

I take my runs in the Makati Villages of Dasmariñas, Urdaneta and Bel-Air 3 & 4. South Forbes is next on my list.

I tried running in the Manila Baywalk, which was a most unpleasant experience. My iPod at full blast was no match for the noise of the numerous live bands which were side by side, it stank like one huge public toilet too. You can't even find a straight path. Never again.

Same here elbert, I've already made 13 runs of mostly 5k workouts since I got my kit last December 31. And the Crystal Method mix is definitely the best :)

    Who have congratulated you?

So far, I've gotten two from Lance Armstrong and two from Paula Radcliffe. It's a great feature. It's slightly disappointing when no voice comes at the end of the workout, but highly gratifying when it does. I know, it sounds hokey, but believe me, after a really tiring workout, it's a nice pat in the back.

It doesnt work when I went mountain biking to park nearby with my addidas but I cant really use it for long rides as my pedals require shoes with cleats.
