Valid points. ... but the watch will still be a big hit. Just like the iPhone, it's all about the UI.
Another gadget with another charging cable that will further clutter up my desk....but I'll probably get it anyway.
I ditched buying a fitbit flex at best buy last week to wait for the Watch. I don't regret not buying the fitbit flex. I'm anxious to get a sport watch in either blue, black or orange (or whatever I can use with a suit or barong everyday lol). I like how they made it not just for fitness buffs but for desk jockeys. We need to be reminded to stand up every now and then and walk around.
A practical concern: will it fit the cuffs of long-sleeved shirts? I switch to thinner watches on occasions that I can't roll my sleeves.
Here's a review by a traditional watch lover and enthusiast. He says the build quality is something Switzerland could be proud of and that he would probably buy one. These won't, however, replace his Patek or an IWC. And it will not work well with cuffs. I would have to agree and state as well that this is definitely the best smartwatch out in the market today.
Here's David Pogue's hands-on of the Watch: https://www.yahoo.com/tech/apple-watch-update-more-details-and-hands-on-97091024129.html It includes some points Apple said "privately", like: - the watch being water-resistant (not waterproof) - you load apps into the watch from your iPhone - "Ping my Phone" function to help you locate your missing iPhone - the gold Watch will come in a jewelry box that doubles as a charging station
Here is a great review from an avid watchman: A Watch Guy's Thoughts On The Apple Watch After Seeing It In The Metal (Tons Of Live Photos)
Thanks for sharing. I like his perspective of comparing the Watch with similarly priced watches, showing the amazing value you get from the Watch. You probably wouldn't get a watch as thoughtfully designed (and as functional) as this, at its price of 18k-20k. Hopefully one effect of this is a spilling over of more design options in sports watches, outside of the norm of clunky plastic.
I like the round design of the Moto 360. Maybe Apple will introduce a similar design in the future. So, I have to wait for now.
^You'd have to recharge a Moto 360 at least a thousand times before Apple releases a round Watch. It is not impossible, but remember: the Watch is a wearable computer that happens to tell time. The UI/UX implications of a round watch is no trivial matter. Apple will not sacrifice 90% of its functionality to satisfy a watch aesthetic, which is even less than 10% of its intended use. You are better of saving up for a Patek.
I like how the Watch has a semi-transparent back. When you think about it, its like a fine watch except the watch is looking at your innards too!
I am beginning to imagine the almost infinite possibilities for third party accessories. An example would be a chain attachment that would make the Apple Watch into a pocket watch.
What my wife is looking forward to. Can the watch detect if one gets an irregular heartbeat/arrythmia/heart attack? And can it send an alert? We definitely know some elderly people who could use that. Leo
