Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! Seen a few people complaining about stuff like this happening to their white Macbooks on the net. Here the link to Apple's forum and their thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=516645&tstart=0 Thankfully, the solution seems simple. Clear, non-acetone nail polish did the trick for one user. I hope that is the case as I have 2 white Macbooks coming in tomorrow
Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! Reason why I still prefer the Al finish heheh Will pass on the Macbook... 1 order of MBP please
Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! do you really mean clear, non-acetone nail polish? or nail polish REMOVER?
Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! TiArmor for Macbook please! Actually, the non-acetone (well he noticed that it was acetone based after - some japanese/chinese brand) nail polish was tested on an ibook. Another member tested it on his macbook to no avail. Acetone damages palstic!
Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! so did the nail polish remove the stains or proteect from getting them? im imagining an extra glossy surface where the nail polish is applied, and a pinkish hue around it due to merthiolate tincture.
Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! Guys, all you need is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser or the local Powerhouse Super Eraser and a lot of PATIENCE and DEVOTION. If it can make the iBook look like new, then it'll definitely work for the Macbook white. Available at Tru Value or DIY.
Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! With the magic eraser thats gone but dont wait till its really bad. that looks bad, my iBooks gonna be 4 months and its sparkling. i clean it 1 time a month with Mr. clean ME.
Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! Too much of a hassle if you ask me. hehehe. People tried the mr. clean eraser and all those other stuff... did not work with the macbook. Their guess is that sweat, mixing with the porous plastic casing, is causing the discoloration. And don't use those pink nail polish remover, as adviced by the guys complaning @ apple boards coz it will stain. At best use those clear non-acetone ones. Pero it did not work for them rin.
Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! there's iskin for the keyboard right. is there a protector that can be installed on the palm rest?
Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! I havent seen any. I want those similar to them transparent ipod protectors (static film? no adhessive).
Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! Heh dang, how forgetting to type a word can alter everything.......I meant clear, non-acetone nail polish remover
Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! ugh. what a turn off. first it was the heat. then it was the humming. now it's this discoloring thing? wtf are the manufacturers thinking? from the start pa naman i was exclusively considering the white macbook (because the black one is severely overpriced) as it looked real nice and sexy. now it kinda feels like this nice and sexy turns out to be feverish, has stains under the armpits and snores! well i guess it's better luck next model for Apple.
Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! I've had my white Macbook for about three weeks now and so far I haven't seen any sign of discoloration. But then again, I still haven't used it that much. I'm seriously worried about this, ampangit tingnan e. It's supposed to be resistant to the usual cleaning products that have previously worked on iBooks. Any other suggestions on how to prevent this? They should come out with pads for the palm rests that would also cover those uncomfortably sharp edges. I also noticed that the plastic panel around the lcd is a bit loose on the left side of my Macbook. Not enough to cause any worries the thing might fall off, but still it's disappointing to find that kind of sloppy assembly on a Mac.
Re: Uh oh: Dirrrty MacBooks! Ms. Iya is right about the Magic Erasers. No need for harmful chemicals to clean your books, just wet a pad of this sponge with clean water. I also had the same kind of dirt on my ibook, then I purchased two boxes of Powerhouse Super Eraser at ACE hardware SM Fairview for just less than P100 each. It cleaned my ibook like it was brand new.
