I'm planning to drop by Macau after a business trip to HK next week. It will be for a whole day. For frequent travellers out there, any travel tips or insider info on how I can maximize my stay? I plan to hit the Venetian for a few hours and maybe do some sightseeing in the town area. Any nice spots for photos? Im planning to bring my D80.

Keep this thread alive and let me know how your trip goes - I'll be in Macau around Christmas time and I'm interested to see where you think the good photo ops are.

from hk central terminal (or TST) you can ride their speed boat HK$154 (HK$172 night time)

from macau pier, just ride taxi to Venetian.. i think ull be spending around 3 to 4 hrs there or more.

then taxi going toward the city... from there, just ride any bus.. macau is so small you cant get lost.

night sightseeing is nice.. just like las vegas.

i was there a couple of months ago. the bus system is safe and reliable.

if i'm not mistaken, you can take bus33 from the pier. it goes to the city center. from there you can walk around and visit the famous churches. don't forget to buy egg tarts :) oh, there's also the macau tower. there is another bus from the city center going there :) transpo is abt 5 MOP lang! abt 25 pesos?

btw, mugger askraldy is in macau :)

a nice spot to shoot photos would be senado, the church ruins, the Tower (suggest you go up to get a good vista of macau)...

If The Venetian is your first stop and you will be coming from Hong Kong island, there is a new ferry service from the Hong Kong Macau Ferry terminal (Shun Tak Center) directly to Taipa island. From Taipa ferry terminal you can take the free Venetian shuttle ( a 5-minute bus ride). Check out their website

One day in Macau might not be enough, although you can pretty much limit your destinations if that's all the time you have to spare.

Better visit the Macau Government Tourism website to get a glimpse of the things you can do and places you can go to.

    Re: Day Trip to Macau

Another question, I know that they accept HKD in Macau, but am I correct in assuming that they only accept MOP in public transport like buses and taxis? How about in flea markets, shops, etc?

I want to make sure as I don't want to be stuck with too much MOPs in hand at the end of the day...

Macau is a melting pot of sorts -- even the kind that you find in THAT basement and in probably most of the casinos there...;)
