It's finally here. iMac users will finally have Retina displays, albeit for the 27" model only (for now)

Apple - iMac with Retina 5K*display

    - 4x more pixels than standard 27" iMacs
    - 14.1 million pixels
    - 5120 x 2880 resolution
    - up to 4 GHz core i7 processor
    - up to 3.5 teraflops of graphics computing power
    - up to 3 TB Fusion drive
    - 720p HD FaceTime camera
    - pricing starts at $2499

27" iMac with normal display still sells for $1799 starting price.

So opting for a 5K display has a $700 additional tag price.

Top end core i7 and 4gb gpu adds $500. When I saw it I knew it was time to buy a UPS.

For the $2500 price you'd think apple would spring for a 1080p FaceTime camera. [emoji23]

Find it weird that the hdd options are up to 3tb lang when 6tb and 8tb are already available.

Stunning display can't wait to see it in the flesh! For a super duper high res display the price is actually very reasonable! However the default specs are a bit underwhelming, it certainly makes sense to BTO upgrade if you plan to get one. I certainly hope that the new graphics card can handle the display smoothly without lagging! This is going to be a huge boom for graphic artist, photographers, and video editors but a bane for those who like to play 3d games.

Very good update however, I wonder, where is the Apple Cinema 5K display for the Mac Pro owners?

I just read the tech specs of iMac which makes the iMac 2014 is more considerable rather than Mac Pro.

    That sweet 5k Display

add to that the price of your eyeglasses which i am sure will need to terribly, terribly adapt to that glorious display...

Wish it had a larger display like say 32, 39, 40 or 42-inch. At a typical viewing distance of 20 to 40 inches would make the resolution largely wasted. I also want the iMac to double as a 5K TV. :) Would be interesting how it'll behave with a 2014/2015 model AV receiver.

Are the memory module user replaceable?

I suddenly thought of selling my 15rMBP. Just when I'm in the market for a 2560x1440 display, Apple suddenly churns out the iMac with twice the resolution(and more than 5x the price tag). LOL!

Good question, Ryan. Perhaps they want to gauge customer response to the Retina 5K iMac first?

    So what's next? An actual 5K TV with built-in TV? :)

I'm pretty sure 5K thunderbolt display as a replacement to the current one is in their cards. Just probably waiting for the consumers to warm in the stunning displays then they'll launch it.

I'm reading into some forums that the MacPro can't power a 5K display? Is there any truth in this?

Good to know that RAM is still user-replaceable.

Take a good look at your Yosemite wallpaper, a photo of the Half Dome.

iMac 27" Retina Display, you could actually see the ridges and crevices—the best mountain cracks I've seen here in Singapore. :D

I'm in Singapore now, and I've seen the iMac with Retina 5K display.

It's BEAUTIFUL. The screen is crazy good. It's the same experience you had when you moved from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4, from iPad 2 to iPad 3... but BIGGER. Photographers will love it!

Saw this in the flesh yesterday playing 4K videos from YouTube and it was nothing short of stunning!

Summer 2015 is the date for my Retina iMac purchase [emoji16]
