Argh. I'm getting frustrated with trying to run this game on my lowly 14" iBook (1.33 GHz, Radeon 9200 32MB, 768MB RAM). According to published system requirements and the Aspyr game agent, my machine should be able to run SW: KOTOR no problem.

I can run C & C Generals no problem. I can run Black & White no problem.

But in certain areas (esp. Dantooine) the game the framerate drops so low, character movement freezes up (or keeps going and suddenly 'teleports' to some location far ahead), and I have to switch lead characters before I can regain normal character control. This has been happening so much lately that it's leading me to think that SW: KOTOR is unplayable on the iBook (wish that I had a Powerbook instead - anybody wanna buy a 5 month 14" iBook for P60,000? :D).

I've searched around and it seems I'm not the only one experiencing the problem. Anybody else try this game? On the iBook? Experiencing the same unbearable slowdowns?

I've already patched to the latest 1.03c patch, BTW - which was supposed to give better performance on ATI Radeon 9200 cards - better performance my a$$!

I bought the game mainly because I loved it - but never got around to finishing it - on the XBox. Of course, the XBox is definitely the better gaming machine, hands down. Now I'm thinking of selling this game (original, with box, manuals, receipt from Datablitz) bec. it just won't run properly. Argh.

I experienced the same problem.. It's NOT a hardware problem but a BUG in the game.

On my PBook, I get the same exact problem and PBs are equipped with GeForce video chipsets.

Even on my iMac G5, I would get the occational game freeze on Dantooine and even in the city in Tatooine. Some say it's a problem rendering the grassland in Dantooine that aggravates the problem.

What I basically did to get around the problem is to just not complete the optional quests in Dantooine like the Mandalorian raiders and the feud between the two families. On Dantooine as long as you get accomplish becoming a jedi and getting the starmap and the crystals, you can continue on.

Here's more information about it. Some have fixed it by downgrading to 10.3.7, but the weird thing is it also affects some PC installations of the game as well.

Did a little more Googling and reading through forums. Here's the most informative one I've found so far:

    http://www.macaddict.com/forums/topic/46665

If you go to page 8, it describes a nifty little trick that's supposed to work wonders for Radeon 9600 card owners.
Unfortunately, I tried it on my Radeon 9200 and while the framerate suddenly became majorly playable - I get a bunch of missing triangles. Oh well, I know enough about Dantooine's map that I can 'use the Force' to move my way around...
