just a heads up folks. i posted my black macbook here in the marketplace and in TPC but somehow it showed up in ebay.ph through another seller named villain7777. he posted the exact description of my item with pictures. he changed a character in m serial number and when i checked it, the "false" serial number was registered but did not match the item description of his post, or what he copied from my description in tpc. people even texted me about it that the seller was saying that he's from the province and was offering the item for a very low price... again, this may be a legitimate seller but come'on... same description and pictures and change only a character in my serial number? i already reported it in ebay. just be vigilant.
this is his post http://cgi.ebay.ph/macbook-black-13-3_W0QQitemZ320339632602QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_211?hash=item320339632602&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A833|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 this is my TPC post http://www.tipidpc.com/viewitem.php?iid=2907524&page=
this usually is the profile of scammers.. usually the item being sold is in the province hence you can't check on it personally and then you would need to send money first before he has the unit delivered to you.. usually 50% down before he sends you the claiming reciept from your local fedex/dhl/courier... then the item would not arrive and the seller has vanished with your wire transferred money..
Just had a text conversation with the scammer. I posed as a buyer. Said it's for pickup in Lucena. Will knock off 1k off the price if I pick it up. EDIT: Btw, the serial number looks exactly the same as what you wrote in TPC.
this is a new M.O. by some scammers... seen two macs re-posted at Ebay.ph with very low price but shipping only transaction... beware buyers!
i just realized i missed that character in the serial number. so he copied it character per character... reported it already in ebay. im wondering what would be his modus on this one if someone shows up to buy his said unit...
@remanthony: If it's the same MO used in another scam perpetrated on a PhilMUG member not so long ago, the method of payment will be by bank deposit. Once the money is deposited, the scammer texts a meetup time and location. Once he has the money in the account, he cashes it out immediately and never bothers to show up at the pickup place. Or if it's shipped (since he's "in Lucena"), he texts a made up tracking number for Air21/DHL/Fedex/etc. After a few days and the package never shows up, he never answers any calls or texts. EDIT: In the interests of public safety, I suggest you guys playfully pose as buyers and stall. Give him some good price offers. But the point is to delay any transaction. This way he'll think he has a real sale and will turn away any prospective buyer/victim since he has "a better deal" with you guys. Just a thought. Keep him on the hook until someone can get on the horn to hitme64/PNP/NBI and setup a buy/bust. Nothing like a good scambaiting to make your weekend complete.
thanks for the info rafael. if only i had a spare number, ill text the guy. try getting his bank account name and number. maybe we could start from there
OT (kinda): Just thought I'd lighten the mood and share some website devoted to scambaiting. I've had some pretty good laughs reading on stories of such internet vigilanteism. http://www.thescambaiter.com/ http://www.419eater.com/
Ebay page says it sold. I wonder if he got spooked and ended the sale. Or is someone scambaiting him?
Im with the buy bust operation. Anyone know Bitag, Imbestigador, and XXX?? This will put the scammers in the limelight and maybe scare them off a bit. Just to teach them a lesson they wont forget.
Might be he saw this thread. Wouldn't be suprised if he's registered here too. Something that might help, put big watermarks on your pics
