Just wondering if Final Cut and Final Cut Express have any stop animation or time-lapse features. I was speaking with one of my friends doing a stop animation project on Premiere but being a PC user he didn't know if it was available in Final Cut. :)

I don't think it is a stock filter on FCP. There is a workaround, though. But if you want to avoid the hassle, there are third-party plug-ins available.

    Here's one: Boinx iStopMotion

    :)

aside from numerous apps out there like IStopMotion, FrameThief, DVTimeLapse and Stop Motion Studio – you can also simulate a stop motion effects on your video by using FCP Strobe (Browser->Effects>Video>Strobe), experiment on the "Strobe Duration" and your video speed – you'll get the instant stop animation/time lapse effect....

Thanks for the tips. Do these work with Final Cut Express or are these Strobe effects available on Express also? :)

  6. Strobe can also help give a nice de-interlaced film look effect. Place the Strobe filter over footage shot in 60i and set the filter settings at the lowest (1). You get a softer, less video-like image without it being too strobe-y.

  7. And if you want to do time lapse but don't want to spend for plug-ins, just set your camera on a tripod, roll tape on a sunset, traffic, or whatever for half an hour to an hour, import to FCP as one huge clip, then adjust the speed settings to 1000% so that the clip shrinks and speeds up. Just come armed with lots of hard disk space.

Thanks Carlo. I've actually been doing some Rostrum animation and it's so much work, I found the DV cam hooked-up to your laptop method easier to work with.

Sorry to be a nag but are these strobe filters available also in Final Cut Express or just in Final Cut Pro? I can't afford Final Cut Pro kasi so was just wondering. :)
