i have a 15 in macbook pro mid 2012 (non retina) that just won't power on; charger's lighting when plugged; batt indicator lights when pressed. tried PRAM reset and hard reset ... i was using it, then left it on for few minutes; bumalik ako naka power off na. dinala ko na sa BTB sa BGC he advised me to plug it for more than 5hrs baka sakali; pero wala parin. their fee is 1500 for diagnostic; question is do you guys have any idea whats wrong? i was thinking baka sakop pa sya nung Apple Repair programme, before kasi i had glitches on the screen na related dun sa issue ng graphics card then always resets. pinacheck ko noon sa (2015) sw!tch kahit na under apple warranty pa ako charged me 1500 for diagnostic. they just reinstalled the OS and replaced the thermal paste and cleaned it which i requested. after nung fix kasi na yun, meron parin yung glitch hinayaan ko nalang. (sorry ang haba ng inquiry ko po. related naman sa repair program though not staingate)
No need just bring your macbook to an authorise apple service center and they will check the Serial of your macbook, you warranty + account information is tied into your mac's Serial number.
my MBP was affected by this (MBP early 2015) doon sa nakita ko sa Apple Exchange Program ang under lang ng for replacement is mid 2014 to early and mid 2015 since doon lang ata nag karoon ng problem sa reflective coating ng Retina screens nila. Try calling BTW or Power Mac and ask if pasok ba yung 2012, Be sure to tell them na "Stain Gate" yung issue alam na nila yun di kasi iannounce ng BTW and Power Mac na may exchange program na nagyayari. to those who are asking about sa 2016 units if affected sila ng Stain gate the answer is NO before pa ma release yung 2016 units nalaman na nila yung issue and fixed it sa 2016 units.
...too bad, I also have this problem with my 2015 MBPr for some time now. Will check with BTB Lucky Chinatown if they can replace for free...
Just an update to this, finally had the time to send this over for repair. Checked it in by Friday (July 14) and got it back by Wednesday (July 19), absolutely free of charge due to the staingate issue. And this was done by Power Mac Center (Alabang)
my 7month old 2015 macbook pro is showing signs of staingate https://www.screencast.com/t/JOXVomgZV My questions are: 1. Anong service center ang pinakamabilis (or pinakamabagal para hindi ko mpuntahan mag repair/replace ng ganitong issue? 2. Mas malapit ako sa Switch Pampanga @ Marquee Mall... are they a good service center? 3. Ano ano ang mga dapat gawin to prevent or at least minimize yung ganitong issue? are there any products you can recommend na pwedeng bilhin online that can help on this? 4. How many repair/replacement ba ang allowed that apple service centers can replace this issue in case bumabalik parin sya? say for example i bought an applecare ext warranty and this issue keeps coming back every 7 months? will they repair staingate issue for 2nd to 5th or more? thanks po in adv for helpful answers.
A colleague asked me for help to connect her 13" MBPr early 2015 to the overhead projector, that is when I noticed that her monitor is affected with staingate. It seems that she is not aware of the recall and I told her that she can avail of it. Fast forward this morning, she came to my office to inform me that she received already her mbp with the brand new screen and as a token of appreciation gave me a mcdo big breakfast with coffee.
I also have this issue with my 2014 MBPr, but I'm not sure if I can avail of the recall here in the PH because I bought my MBP in Canada. Can anyone help?
My MBP is starting to have stains not on the edges but on the middle if the screen. Horizontal dotted lines, some are a bit diagonal. I'm not using any keyboard protector. It's not that noticeable unless you look to closely but I think the AR coating is starting to peel off. Can you recommend shops at Makati? Do they have to wipe my data when they replace the screen? Thanks!
Macbook Pro Retina 13" Bought: Aug 15, 2016 Warranty: Expired Warranty Firstly thank you for creating this thread, I've searched online about the problem on my screen when normal scratches on my screen started multiplying even though I wasn't really using my Mac that much. I found out that the scratches on my screen were not normal and actually a cosmetic defect that happens like a magic (seriously, even if you aren't touching your screen). I've read from US forums that they got replacement screen for their Macs even the warranty has already expired. So yes the same applies to us. Apple has extended the replacement period for the affected Macbook models up to 3 years from the original purchase date with or without warranty. I actually had a screen protector from Capdase installed when I started to be bothered by the ugly scratches and worn out screen, it wasn't as bad as the others you could see on google. But it was unsightly enough to bother you especially when you are watching a movie or working on a black background. The screen protector somehow masked the problem. But since I wanted to try if Apple will acknowledge this concern I called Powermac hotline and I was advised to bring my Mac to the nearest Powermac Service Center (they also confirmed that it is free of charge, except for diagnostics which could be waived). I brought mine to Powermac Service Center SM North EDSA Annex. Don't forget to mention right away that the issue is STAINGATE or ANTI REFLECTIVE COATING PROBLEM. They will ask you to queue and wait to be called. There was not much questions when I was already being assisted in the counter, they would just make sure that your Mac has no other problems. If your Mac is diagnosed with any other problem other than the Staingate issue you will then be asked to pay the diagnostic fee. If you know that your Mac has no other problem or history of liquid contact or being dropped you can breath properly at this point. The diagnostic fee is around Php2000 - 3000 (not really sure). Fastforward, they took my Mac for a 2nd level diagnostics thru their engineers, after the basic diagnostics over the counter, where in they will check for signs of liquid contact or other damage. It was far from my concern I just wanted my screen to be replaced but it was their SOP. It was also explained that they are doing it to protect their services from further complaints in case a different problem arises during the repair. It was Sunday Feb 11 when I brought my Mac. Tuesday Feb 13 I received an email and text message that the problem has been identified and the part for replacement has been approved by Apple. But the remarks was BILLED SERVICE (meaning I have to pay for it, but I know it was part of the Apple screen replacement program so I am at peace). Feb 15 I tried to drop by at Powermac and I was able to get my laptop. Paid nothing! I was really impressed since they initially informed me that the diagnostics will take 3-5 days or 7 days at most and ordering of parts will take 2-4 weeks. I got my laptop back in less than a week with a brand new screen. If you are encountering this problem feel free to call Powermac Hotline. PS Bought mine at Powermac Trinoma. i am not sure if Powermac Service Center will service products from other merchants but you may call them to clarify this. Hooray! Hope you guys could also save your Macbooks' screens. i saved a lot since I don't have to buy a new Mac just yet.
Try to have it checked by Apple Service Center first to save thousands of pesos. Yes they will reformat your laptop so make sure to back it up. They won't proceed with the replacement program if your Mac is not yet backed up. They will even ask you to sign an acknowledgement of data loss. You also have a choice what Mac OS they will install. I insisted for the same version which is High Sierra.
