Is anyone using Speed Download? I have the Lite Version and it seems to have a limited download speed. I have already set the bandwidth throttle to Unlimited but it still seems to cap my download speed to 50 - 60 KB/s per file. I know this is not the limitation of my net connection since if I download using Flashget in Windows (thru Parallels), I can get about 200 KB/s download rate per file.

Any ideas? I would really prefer to stick to Mac for everything

yeah i'm using one, but the pro version.

which source are you using speed download? and how long have you been downloading with speed download. Sometime the ISP limits the bandwidth ? :)

With Speed, just take note of how many active connections you have with the server. I found this out the hard way. I bought Roxio Toast Titanium and had it set to 5 connections. After I couldn't get it to download, I contacted customer service and they asked if I was using a download accelerator. Turns out they limit download connections to a certain amount per 12 hours in order to not put too much strain on their servers. I had them turn off the cap so I could finish the download. I had to limit speed to just one connection.

i've been downloading from rapidshare. And I was able to download long enough to complete about 700MB of data.

By using flashget, I think it gives a maximum of 5 connections per file. So I'm assuming I'm getting the same using Speed Download. But the problem is it's still caps to about 60 KB/s per file. Although in Flashget i could get about 200 KB/s per file (Downloading the same content from the same server)

I think I'm able to achieve the same speed with Flashget if I do more concurrent downloads (say 4 files (4x50=200)) but what if the file I'm downloading is only 1 or 2? It doesn't go beyond the 60KB/s

I'm not even sure if I'm making any sense :D

    that makes sense.

update your speed download. for the pro version, the newly release version or update fixed this capping problem.

well i just noticed it last night :) i downloaded 50GB for 3days and the speed is still overwhelming.

that did it! I upgraded my Speed Download Lite to ver. 1.03 and it seemed to resolve the capping problem. Now I'm getting over 200 KB/s per file

    Thanks badw33d!

The reason why I like this Lite version is because it has no extras and contains only the Download Manager itself, which is the only one I need. Not to mention cheaper too! :)

Now I could ditch flashget and stick with OSX :D

install flashget extension or your firefox then configure it to use speed download as the default download manager... or better yet install downthemall and ditch speed download.. :D

sorry bro my mistake.. its "flashgot" not "flashget".. its a firefox extension just go tools > add-ons > get add-ons button and search for "flashgot" then install, after installing you need to restart your browser then go into tools > flashgot > more options then slect the dropdown box then select speed download..

    hope it helps..

I am thinking of buying Speed Download which is at 20% off till Dec 31, but just want to know if the full version is worth it or the lite version will do.

The full version is $25 and the lite $20.

I'm using the full version, although I don't need those FTP / server etc crap. I only use it solely for downloading, that's it.
