Is there an app that I can use to check my average speed in my current connection?

There're times I just want to know if it's my computer that's acting up or my connection's slow.

    thanks.

You can google, download and install MenuMeters. Its an app that monitors the speed of your current connection, among other functions, and display them on your menu bar.

you can google, download and install X Resource Graph, a standalone app that does virtually the same fuctions as MenuMeters but on a small unobtrusive window on your desktop.
