Production has been troubled. change in directors, reshoots. Not really a fan of this one offs. They should just expand the universe, create / introduce new storylines and new characters. What's next, A Chewie movie?
I will have to agree. The story of the first one (Rogue One) felt a little forced to me, and for what? Just to give more meaning to some throwaway lines in Episode 4? Didn't work for me... Plus they had to add in those CGI animations of Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher, which to me weren't that impressive to start with. I'd rather that they really thresh out all the plot holes in the main anthology series and do a real honest-to-goodness jaw-dropping Star Wars sequel worthy of Lucas' original vision...
With Ron Howard taking on and finishing the Han Solo movie, it just got more interesting. I don't mind Disney mining all the content they can squeeze out of the OG Star Wars characters. I like sticking to what's familiar and close to home. It's just fun, all of it.
I hope they have a scene where a young Han hesitates to shoot first and pays for it (maybe have a loved one die). Then we know why he shoots first in ANH
Everything in the trailer looks good, except for the title character. I really hope to be proven wrong, like how most of us were proven wrong by Heath Ledger when he was cast as the Joker. Right now I really have very little faith in the actor who plays solo. Looks nothing like Harrison and sounds nothing like him. And based on the few scenes of him in the trailer, he has close to no charisma at all. A trait that Harrison Ford had in spades.
On a slightly related note, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss have been tapped to write and produce a Star Wars spinoff movie (much like Rogue One and Solo, I suppose). This sounds like an epic collaboration if it comes true... New 'Star Wars' Series Coming From 'Game of Thrones' Showrunners If you thought season 8 of Game of Thrones was all you had to look forward to from series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, fear not! Also, get ready to lose your shit. The fellas behind the globally popular, Emmy-winning series have set their sights on another wildly renowned franchise. Did you guess it yet? (I know it was in the headline, but this is fun.) Star Wars! Cue theme music. And it’s not just one film, Benioff and Weiss are set to write and produce a series of Star Wars movies. President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy lauded the duo as “some of the best storytellers working today.” She went on to say, “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.” Confirmed by an Instagram post from the official Star Wars account: https://www.instagram.com/p/Be3mbYDhdqR/?taken-by=starwars
Isn't this more George R.R. Martin? Look what happened to Season 7 of GOT, with no actual book material to work with....
^ Don't tell me there' My initial reaction is the same. Seems like the actor still lacks the charisma that is vital to the role. However, I would assume that this was similar to how it was when a then unknown Harrison Ford first came out as Han Solo. Let's hope for the best, and I have faith in director Ron Howard to come up with a stellar product.
Just saw Solo last night... Wife and daughter find it entertaining. No need to have any knowledge of the earlier Star Wars films. It was mentioned earlier that Chewbacca, Lando and Han will not die in this film... (If Han dies, you're watching another franchise and I'm sure it has cars) So as a Star Wars fan, I know that they will be able to survive whatever happens. I guess it's your normal "summer movie"
I found it enjoyable albeit generic (Space Heist), didn't sleep through it which is a good indicator for a LFS screening. Woody Harrelson & Paul Bettany is quite spot on for the characters they are portraying. I'm not sure about Donald Glover as Lando, I'm always taken aback since I know him from other shows/properties (Community, Childish Gambino, Spiderman Homecoming) and some comedy fell flat for me (I'm guessing he did not have any creative input with the script). Some parts felt Star-Trekky, or is it just me?
