an update to this thread (http://www.philmug.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=60171&highlight=smart+gilas) Smart Gilas Basketball Team arrived in Bahrain last night at around 5-6pm Bahrain time. after the arrival the team went straight to their hotel then after checking in they had a diner at chili’s seef Bahrain where Filipino OFW (like me) got the chance to meet the whole team starting from Team Manager: Allan Gregorio Team Coach: Rajko Toroman with the assistants and Physician, Trainers Team Captain Chris Tiu with Co captain Mark Barroca the rest of team are Paul Asi Taulava Marcus Douthit Mark Baracael Dylan Ababou Jason Ballesteros Cris Lutz Marcio Lassiter JV Casio Aldrech Ramos they will do a series of exhibition starting today (17/01/11) and tomorrow(18/01/11) their first game is against the defending champion of Bahrain Basketball Association the Muharraq Club with their import Lamond Murray a former NBA Player and their barrowed import from another club here in Bahrain to give more strength to Muharraq Club and more pressure to the smart gilas team. Their next opponent is the Al Ahli Club another strong team in Bahrain Basketball Association League. Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar are not with the team, Aguilar is injured as per Allan G. and Greg S. was in Ateneo studying. I’ll give an update later after their first game. After their series of exhibition here in Bahrain, the whole team will go straight to UAE Dubai to play in the UAE Invitational
Baracael is from our province buying grocery from our store. Hope can talk to him once he visits our store again. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Nice! I'm planning to watch Smart Gilas vs. Al Ahli tomorrow. Good one bro, di ko kasi napanood yung kanina versus Muharraq.
Lee, try not to miss the game later against al ahli club, you will see how many Filipinos are there to watch and support our Basketball National Team despite of all criticism from our kababayans in Philippines and some other parts of the world. for those who wants the update in ENGLISH eto para sa inyo Smart Gilas stun Muharraq Posted on » 2011-01-18 Aidan Payne Staff Reporter The Philippines National Men's basketball team 'Smart Gilas' defeated Bahrain Cup holders Muharraq 77-69 in a match held last night at the Zain Arena in Umm Al Hassam. The visiting team – coached by Rajko Toroman from Serbia – started with Andy Barroca, Aldrech Ramos, Marcio Lassiter, Chris Tiu and Marcus Douthit who stands over two metres tall. A packed arena saw Barroca score the opening point with a free shot and the Filipinos took early control and a 23-22 lead at the end of the first quarter. Muharraq coached by Rikco started the match with captain Ahmed Al Doy, Ali Abbas, Isa Ebrahim, Jassim Mohammed and American Lamood Murray. Muharraq managed to level in the second quarter 40-40 and Jassim Mohammed used a three-pointer to put his team ahead 50-46. In a highly entertaining match, the two teams went in level at 55 all. It stayed pretty much this way in the third quarter before the visitors went 74-68 ahead and soon won the quarter which was marred by some rough play which infuriated both coaches and players, leading to the fourth quarter not being played. Top scoring for the Philippine team was J.V. Casio (15), Marcus Douthit (11) and Asi 'The Rock Tualava (10) who all scored one three-pointer. For Muharraq, Lamood Murray (17) was the top scorer. He managed four three-pointers while Jassim Mohammed (16) bagaged four-three pointers. "This has been a useful exercise and a good foundation to prepare for the qualification for the London Olympics in 2012," said Philippines team manager Butch Antonio. In an earlier match, DHL Filipino Club Basketball Group defeated Saudi Filipino Selection side 75-62. The Smart Gilas team arrived here on Sunday and were received at the new Philippine Embassy in Zinj by consul-general Sahid Glang. Today they take on back-to-back league champions Al Ahli which has Bahrain’s best basketball talents, including national team players Hussain Shaker, Maytham Jameel, Sayed Hashim and Mohammed Qurban. They also have American professional Jamal Holden in its ranks. The event is being held under the auspices of Bahrain Basketball association president and MP Adel Al Assoumi. Emil Durano, FCBG chairman and Dong Silastre, head of FCBG Smart Gilas said: “We are very happy to bring them here and the proceed of this event will be put into good use, as FCBG will allocate funds for charity that may help distressed Filipino workers to return to our country. Currently we have around 80 individuals sheltered at the Philippine Embassy”. Sponsors of the event are Banagas, MoneyGram, Cathay Pacific, Nonoo Exchange, Sharam Sports, Pars International Hotel, Union Press, Chilies and Sports Avenue.
sorry to say it was not televised but wait for the report in GMA Network about the development regarding smart gilas, after maybe of their invitational game in UAE Dubai like what Chris Tiu did before he made a narration while viewing the video and highlights of their journeys.

latest info regarding the development of smart gilas Two high school stars tapped to play in PBA If smart gilas allowed to play in the coming PBA conference, they will include those 2 young players in their line up. I don't know both of them but I already heard Kiefer Ravena was playing very well in his ateneo blue eaglets during his high school days. I consider Ravena as a good addition (not an impact), He still young, athletic he can play either a PG or SG which a good addition in the rotation of smart gilas point guards so far we have only 2 legitimate PG (Barroca and Casio) these 2 are doing very well even their opponent are taller than them, they can run, penetrate and create spaces. as a playing coach in my team here in Bahrain and as I watched their exhibition game here in Bahrain and their ongoing games in UAE International Tournament, our national team are lack of legitimate shooters so far we have only Chris Tiu, we are also lack of BIG mens, if Japeth Aguilar (if the rumor is true that he is already out or cut in the list) it will be a big problem for our smart gilas national team. the smart gilas needs more of legitimate shooters (mala allan caidic ba o james yap na kahit may bantay kayang tumira ng tres) and more big mens (na mga Danny Ildefonso nung younger years pa niya or Enrico Villanueva na palaban kahit sino katapat) also a good addition is gabe norwood, a big guard lalo pat kalaban ay mga malalaking point guard din. you? who will be your personal choice to be added in the list?
gabe norwood will be a good addition to smart gilas if ever. ok sana un palaban na attitude ni enrico villanueva kelangan ng smart gilas ng hindi nag papa push-over.
