i don't shutdown my mbp since i find it a bit of a hassle to boot it up when i want to use it so sleep is the way to go for me :)

I just close the lid and let it sleep, and just end up rebooting every few weeks, just to be sure memory doesn't get too 'messy' (if that makes sense).

Same here. I just let it sleep. :) Shut down once in awhile to reboot or it reboots when I forget to plug it in and the battery dies on me. hehe

I shut it down before going to sleep. It boots up fairly quickly anyway. Just my little help to mother nature. :D

    Sleep! FTW.

Shutdown / Reboot if necessary (like updates and installations).

When I was using a MBP, I put it on sleep when not in use during the day and shut it down before I go to sleep at night. The more now with my MBA, booting up is so fast.

Same as most users, sleep during the day, shutdown at night.

Sleep when I plan to use my macbook during the day and shut it down by night time.

Just an added question, anyone know the estimated amount of "sleep time" before the battery gets completely drained? I read it's about a month or so.

My Macbook 09, never gets a sleep. It's basically acting as my multimedia desktop. Hooked it on a 32inch Samsung LCD TV, some wireless keyboard and mouse and an iHome speaker/iPod dock. I just drain the battery every now and then to keep it healthy.

Sleep. But once in a while especially when you render using AE, shut down after working.

This has actually happened to me. I usually just put to sleep my Mac even when traveling. One time, when I got home I pulled my Mac out of the laptop bag and it was hot as hell. From that point on, whenever I need to bring it with me on the road I make sure to shut it down first. This was also the same advice I got from an authorized apple technician, he recommended to never put the Mac to sleep when on the move as it can somehow damage the hard drive.
