We’ve cancelled plans to go to Singapore until June 2020 on advice of the resident epidemiologist of DOH (working for WHO) who is a high school classmate of mine. If she says it so then it’s something we really, really have to consider.

It's tad unusual to see many residents and tourists alike wearing surgical masks - a scene that's quite customary in japan.

And here also comes 2 teams of visitors of mine. One, magtatapon daw ng pera. And frequents the casinos, holding the same cards and chips kissed by our lovely potential virus carriers. The other, is flying in after a few days in Taipei. If only I could get the immigration to deny their entry.

Kindly note of the entry restrictions as mentioned by the Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong (source: https://www.facebook.com/leehsienloong/posts/3008733082522711):

I have received many messages from you expressing concerns about the Wuhan coronavirus. I fully understand your feelings. We are all worried for ourselves and our loved ones, here and overseas.

The situation is developing rapidly. We have activated our contingency plans, and all our agencies are working together. Our hospitals and healthcare workers are well prepared. We have been preparing for something like this ever since SARS in 2003.

Meanwhile, scientists and medical professionals across the world are working around the clock to understand the virus and develop a vaccine. Experts think the Wuhan virus may be less lethal than SARS, but more infectious. Patients who are infected may possibly be contagious before symptoms show. If true, this will make it harder to screen and detect new cases, and to stop the spread.

So far, all seven confirmed cases in Singapore are Chinese nationals from Hubei. We have not had local transmission or community spread yet, but that can happen, and we must be prepared for it. Meanwhile, we have suspended entry into or transit through Singapore for people who have recently travelled to Hubei, and those with PRC passports issued in Hubei. We will quarantine Singapore residents and those holding long term passes who are returning here, who have recently visited Hubei.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and do more if necessary. Meanwhile, we should all remain calm. All of us can do our part to limit transmission of germs by practising good hygiene. Wash your hands regularly, and seek medical advice early and wear a mask if you feel unwell. But in general, there is no need to wear a mask if you are not ill.

Also please do not listen to or spread rumours and untrue reports — alas there is a lot of that circulating around, on WhatsApp and social media. Sharing news responsibly is an important way we can protect ourselves.

Mm...by comparison, the PH Department of Health website does not contain information about the Wuhan virus. Except for a few press conference but the DOH, no official info.

How can you stop misinformation passed through social media when your own official website is officially silent?

^ And I haven't been to either of their outlets.

Meanwhile, as of writing time, there's no news about the cancellation of the Singapore Airshow except for one of its key aviation conferences. The daily aerial display will also proceed (except Friday) despite the recent withdrawal of the Republic of Korea Air Force BUT raised lots of eyebrows when they allowed China’s People’s Liberation Army Air Force even if pretty much all of the China exhibitors have also pulled out in the wake of the travel bans.

    Here's the aerial display schedule:

    Tuesday 11th Feb 2020: 12.30pm – 1.50pm
    Wednesday 12th Feb 2020: 11.30am to 12.20pm
    Thursday 13th Feb 2020: 11.30am – 12.05pm
Friday 14th Feb 2020: No Flying Display
    Saturday 15th Feb 2020: 11.30am - 12.10pm & 2.30pm to 3.10pm
    Sunday 16th Feb 2020: 11.30am - 12.10pm & 2.30pm to 3.10pm

As of Feb 4, the following companies have decided to skip the event:

    CANADA
    CAE
    Bombardier

    CHINA
    Ampaire Inc
    Acevision
    Ameco Beijing
    Beijing Implant Science & Technology
    China Aviation Industrial Base
China National Aero-Technology Import & Export
Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd (COMAC)
    Shandong Stopart Brake Materials
    United Enterprise Group
    Zhuhai Airshow Company

    GERMANY
    Stemme

    USA
    Gulfstream
    Textron Aviation (ex Cessna)

^Did someone argue that even if the virus is deemed "too heavy" to travel far, infected pilots can send the virus airborne? :p

Damn we cancelled our Singapore trip tomorrow because we have a baby apo joining the trip. It’s okay for us adults but definitely no-no for the little man. But my wife was brave enough to bring him to WHO and lounge around like a trouper so I am pretty sure this was just a lot of horseshit paranoia. Damn.

P.S. Would’ve taken a bite of any food at The Garden Club @rbenzon. Damn.

This Singapore movie theater—where I watched the eventual Oscar Best Picture winner, Parasite—has a sense of humor! :D

    863AC80B-B400-46D6-BD24-78F62D52AEF1.jpeg

Of course, they can get away with that because most of their movie-goers are caucasian expats and progressive locals. In short, hindi balat sibuyas! :D
