If we terminate a postpaid line or if a prepaid sim is deactivated due to zero balance load, will our registered info also be wiped out from the telco system? I’m a little concerned that if the numbers get recycled, then the new sim owner will have our info still attached to the sim number.

I’ve read of people buying a new sim only to find that the number is attached to a Gcash account. I’ve also read that our info is stored with the telco for 10 years.

To avoid this problem, I was wondering if there could be a way to transfer our info to another person, say another family member or close kin, before the postpaid/prepaid number is terminated/deactivated? I’d like to port the postpaid to a prepaid number and have it registered to a family member’s name. Will this be allowed?

Mm…maybe the govt. should integrate AI tech to speed up the verification process. I can imagine that there are govt. functionaries in a vast windowless building where they process the sim verification thing.

I just want to give an update. I gave up on Smart Support. They promised me to change the Name within 24hours and it is more than 2 Months now with weekly asking for an update. I only got the answer that they are working on it with priority. Just BS. I don`t know what could be so complicated in changing a name.

I will let the SIM expire and bought a new eSIM as converting is not possible either yet. I will start fresh as it is not worth the effort to "fight" with the support team.

I have a couple of DITO prepaid sims that are currently registered to me. I want to decommission both. What is the correct procedure to un-registering these prepaid sim cards?

You can't. Just let the SIM Card expire and that's it.

I'm getting a lot of junk SMS lately. I thought SIM registration would eliminate this, but it seems it made the problem worse. It also doesn't help that the NTC's text spam complain page requires you to submit a valid ID.
I hope the NTC simply delegates the task of spam complaints to the telcos. The telcos already have the subscriber's IDs, so no need to submit IDs again. If they have a system in place where the subscriber simply forwards the SMS to the telco, then they can monitor the spam sender for multiple reports from different subscribers, then they could block the number after X number of matches.

Use an SMS app with anti-spam features. Dunno if this is something available on the iPhone but it's a godsend on Android.

In my case, 80% of the SMS I get are either notifs or promos from legitimate businesses like SM, Metrobank, PhilHealth, Maya, and a bunch of others. I hope they eventually come out with a law that compels these businesses to let you opt-out of these text blasts but still retain essential functionalities like OTP or relevant alerts, among others.

our sim reg is just to name the sim to whom, nothing else, so if you have any ID real or fake will work, we just want to activate the sim,

most spams now are local numbers, so they are all registered to a fake name that not afraid to be traced,
and there are more legel spams from banks and wallets, Mata send more than 10 sms a day to spam my inbox, I have to move it to spam folder just silent it,

spam in the Phil is hopeless

When I get calls like that, when they ask for verification info, I just ask them to tell me the answers to their questions to prove to me that they’re legit. If I call a bank, they can verify if it’s me, but if anyone calls me I can verify if the caller is legit.

Mm... Also have lots of spam from online gaming and casinos. Together with the garden variety phishing messages. I just ignore all of them and delete. It is a daily chore but it is what it is. Nothing changed with the passage of the Sim registration law. Same same.

The thing that's annoying is with Smart they don't block these spam messages, but when it comes to important text messages like OTPs they block it. I'm sure Smart is at fault because I tried with other telcos and it works.
