Hi Pluggers. I would like to seek your opinion on this please. I brought my wife's mid-2015 MBP to Beyond The Box for keyboard repair because of some keys getting stuck and the arrow keys do not work anymore. My wife is an editor so we admit this is due to wear and tear. The solution recommended by BTB is to replace the top case. The top case includes the top case, keys, keyboard system and batteries and the quoted price was approx 23K excluding labor charges. The topcase replacement solution is the same solution when replacing batteries I was told. If you need to replace batteries, you have to replace the entire top case. But that only costs ~11k. Way cheaper but the same solution to my keyboard problem. I don't get it. Can anybody enlighten me, please? Sabi ko nga sa BTB baka puedeng sirain nalang nila yung batteries para yun nalang irereport kong problema. Hehe. Anyway, we went ahead with the 23k topcase replacement cost because we really need this machine to work asap. Thank you for reading. A.
This is MBP early 2015, I can't see an ifixit guide for mid-2015, but check this out ... https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBoo...splay+Early+2015+Upper+Case+Replacement/45140
Wow 23k for keyboard / top case. yeah why not go with battery route @ 11k since as they mentioned they will replace top cover with keyboard i assume. Or if you have the courage to do disassembly if you can buy the top cover x keyboard. that will save you a lot of money. checking with AZ it cost roughly $17-$25 https://www.amazon.com/Padarsey-Rep...-13&keywords=macbook+pro+retina+2015+keyboard
the whole assembly typically sells for about $285 on ebay so the 11K solution sounds just about right: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MacBook-Pro...358731?hash=item3d3886ba8b:g:-rMAAOSw5UZY9SGE
Exactly. Same solution to different problem. If the issue is about the battery, Apple will only charge 11k for the top case. If the issue is the keyboard, they change higher for the top case. The solution is the same but the price will depend on the issue. I don't get it too.
Maybe someone can reach out to BTB to check into this deeper? I also wish to report that the unit is also affected by the 'Staingate' issue. Apple (through BTB) replaced the entire display free of charge. So para na syang bago pag pinull-out ko. New display, new topcase. It's also missing some of its rubber feet but BTB's solution for that is to replace the entire bottom case which costs 7k.
Mm...althought it was not resolved in your favor, at least the community is now aware of this peculiar situation.
Bro this might work. try calling apple support or chat support explain the scenario they might provide you other options.
