what did you do prior to all this happening? i assume everything was ok before. the black screen with the darwin/bsd, login is not normal.

try booting to safe boot first...

    restart holding shift key
-once logged in to safe boot, run disk utility to repair the disk

    if safari still wont work..
login normaly, go to home folder>library>preferences
    try to find com.apple.safari.plist
then put it on your trash.
    restart computer.
    try launching safari again.

thanks for you reply. I was just downloading music using limewire the day before it happened. I ran disk utility but it says everythings normal. Now my mac shows a Question mark on the screen everytime i open it.

Your mac shows the question mark then boots normally after a while? If so, you can go to System Preferences -> Startup Disk. Click on your internal hard disk then choose "Restart…".

this is a nice thing to try... i would suggest before you do this try it first with another login(user), just to check. if troubleshooting above doesn't work try reinstalling safari. if it still doesn't work, archive and install.
