can anyone tell me whats the hotkey for closing the currect tab.

apple+q quit safari
apple+w close the window.
????? close tab

command (apple) w will also close the current tab

The close window also functions as closing the tab selected.

So that's command(apple)+W also. Try selecting a tab and do the shortcut.
